Great book by a great photographer...enjoyed the read, great for anyone into photography...

A must read if you are capable of understanding the details of photography.

A most informative and formative photography book from a Great Master, perhaps the most useful of the three Ansel Adams is most known for. All can benefit from the sensibility, creativity, technical expertise and professionalism of this great photographer.

This is the second book purchased having recently lost the first. This book thoroughly explains the zone metering system, a system that is the foundation of understanding light and exposure. Mr. Adams goes through step by step the process of how film records light but never surrendering the final image and vision to the meter. A must read for all aspiring photographers.

Enjoyed the history of Ansel's process getting to a good b&w print, and all the elements he considered along the way. The importance of paper types and how different ones can bring out important qualities of a photo to take a photo to another level. Since I no longer do my own developing and printing, and instead use programs like Photoshop, keeping an eye on just what aspect and tonal range of a picture is still necessary. Also enjoyed seeing more of Ansel's photos.

I had this book back in college when I was a photography major - this is a classic text that just belongs in all photographers' library's. just because. 5-stars

I was in my early 20's when I first read this book and deeply regret not attending one Adams's Yosemite workshops. This book is a gem and methodically covers every aspect of the print making process. I bought it used at a bargain price because the original I had was lost in a nasty divorce.

Excellent for the price I payed.

Surprisingly good picture quality almost as the original edition.

It always bemuses me that some people regard photos on film and subsequently printed as in some way more "real" as representations of the world than digital/photoshop images. Adams was the master of darkroom post production and its a real shame that he didn't live to see the digital photography revolution - he'd have loved it. That much is plain from reading this excellent book and while I'm very glad to not have to spend hours in the dark room any more - just in front of a computer - I have huge admiration for Adams and the way he worked If you love his photographs you'll probably like learning how he made then - and made them is right
