Exactly what i needed
This is a compact power adapter that supplies 48v phantom power to my shotgun microphone that I attach to my Sony 4K camcorder. The sound improvement over the built-in microphone is amazing and it would not be possible without this unit. I am able to attach it directly to the back of the microphone that is mounted to the camera's cold shoe with the mic's shock mount. This is the only unit I have found that s this small, supplies battery operated 48v, and does NOT need an adapter to feed a stereo mic input to a non-phone device. It's built-in switch adapts to either a phone/tablet or standard camcorder/DLSR input.

Phantom Power Ghosted my Behringer XLR Microphone.
I got this yesterday right before a shoot and tested it for about an hour. If there’s phantom power it sure ghosted me. So I read through more reviews and saw where another person said it doesn’t provide phantom power as it suggests. Welp, unless my gear is broken and the other reviewer’s was as well, maybe there’s no need to speak further. My gear works FINE. I’ve trued using the Behringer XLR mic and it’s awesome - as long as phantom power gets provided. This does not.I’m trying knock off gear to see whether people can rely on such equipment at a bargain price. What I like a bit about this (you’ll see other versions such as one yellow and black, which has the same technology as this) is the fact that I can crank up my imported mics more than the sound that they offer. However the additional gain isn’t that great. If the maker of this kind of booster could also make a version that can be mounted via hot shoe rather than a Velcro dangle with a dongle that might help. But the mini plug input is also rather shoddy at the unit. It’s a decent concept however, and for those struggling with audio, look for a used one here which can help you crack up your levels a little - but not much and really, not clean audio either. I’ll add some footage of my kid who took a wireless mic upstairs - it sounded decent to be honest. But the selling point for me was that phantom power - but the feature vanished before making any appearance.

Exactly What I Needed
I film videos for YouTube using a Canon camcorder with an external mic jack. I wanted to improve the audio and purchased a nice condenser microphone but was having trouble finding the right solution for the job. After much trial and error I purchased this item without expecting much but was pleasantly surprised at how clear the sound was. This is a really good low-maintenance solution. I purchased rechargable 7V batteries because I plan on using this a lot. I'm so glad I found this!

Literally does nothing and absolutely does NOT do phantom power.

Overall Good
This is a great solution for using a high quality microphone for recordings without having to setup a computer. Cell phone audio quality for recording can be pretty good and this helps to do that. I think the primary problem is that with a heavy XLR cable and this device itself which (with batteries in it) weighs about as much as a cell phone is that it will drag the cell phone off of a table or counter pretty easily potentially leading to disaster. I understand that making the cable from the device to the phone longer both introduces more noise, but also increases power loss -- but the cable is really super short. The only other alternative (exploring this) is some type of velcro backer for this that holds it in place so when the microphone cord moves it doesn't move and then yank the cell phone onto the floor along with it....Its definitely not a replacement for a high quality desktop mixer, software, and computer based recording -- primarily because it is single channel and because the audio from the device to the cell phone (or computer if you wish) is analog on a cable that is not shielded and so will and does pickup noise. But it is handy for impromptu recordings and a much better alternative than just recording with the poor quality of cell phone built in microphones.

Headphone jack does NOT work
Product arrived quickly and had a small carry bag included which was a nice surprise. I did not try the phantom power, but it did work as far as I was able to run my mic through it and into my dslr camera and use the unit as a preamp to adjust gain. HOWEVER, the headphone output jack does not work. This was an important feature to me in order to monitor sound. I am returning item.
