Eisco Labs Premium Seismograph Model

I bought this for a specific project, making relative measurements of seismic activity (a pipeline is being put in next to my house causing the whole house to shake). A demonstrator really. This device does show from a visual perspective how a simple seismograph would work. In practice, making any type of measurement is a joke. After fully assembled a pencil on the paper would make marks on only one side of the paper, indicating the device was unleveled. No matter how I tried to square the pencil or the device I couldn’t get it to operate properly. I’m an Engineer by training, so I would expect I could get this to work. But I couldn’t.My suggestion, if you are looking to make some relative measurements please check YouTube. There are many examples using your cellphones built in accelerometer (nearly all cellphones have this feature). If you are looking to actually track activity as I am, there are simple electronic circuits that can be built using building block type boards. Again, check YouTube. Much better solutions than this device.Again, if you are an instructor and just trying to give a visual representation of what a simple seismograph looks like (from the 18th century) this fits the bill. Just don’t expect it to actually work.

Paper roll installed incorrectly unable to remove and fix

It’s a solid piece but kind of hard to record data when the paper is stationary. Hoping to capture some seismic movement but not sure it will.

Great Product!!!

I was a fool and thought this was sensitive enough to detect seismic waves. This surely a student model and yu must generate tremendous shocks to get this to register anything. In fact, I am not sure how it can be used in a student capacity either..

Quite nice setup and the material is ok.

OK for the price. Might work better if my classroom were not on a concrete slab.

Excellent for classroom use and science lab assignments.
