Sony VRD-MC6 Compact DVD Recorder

For some time I have been pondering on how best to transfer my precious family videos onto DVD and finally came across this device, which is fairly easy to use and does exactly what I wanted it to do, recording my videos as they play on my old VCR; no need to connect to the computer. The first video I have done has transferred perfectly onto a DVD-R disc and will play back on my laptop. Picture quality is of course only as good as the original rather shaky video but the sound is good and I am so glad to be able to save these old films in a more modern format. I now have many hours of videos of my children to transfer. Managed to get a refurbished recorder from an Amazon seller for less than half the price of new, but it looks like brand new and came in the proper box with all the instructions and bits and bobs. The seller also was great at communication, warning me of some limitations of the device (ie not all camcorders will work with it if you want to record from the camcorder) and it came within 2 days of being ordered, safely packaged. It will also take memory sticks and record digital photos onto DVD if you want. I think it is great and it's just what I needed!

I had the MC5 very bulky so my thoughts was it may be lighter to take on holiday with you and it was much better , you can take this on holiday with you and copy all your photos on disc and HD/SD movies while you are on holiday just in case you have a miss app and lose them all, one year i went to China and lost all mine but if i had had this then i would have been safe and not angry with my self, i well recommend this it does what it says on the box, and in HD i think it is much better than my old MC5 as that only did SD not full HD, it is much better to take any where with you and very easy to use and does not take all that room in your case, well worth the money.

I bought a reconditioned example for £120. At that price, it's absolutely brilliant and has been an excellent and economic way of preserving my old VHS and DV home recordings. It works well with both analogue inputs and with my Sony Handycam hooked up to it.

Recorder arrived today - just 3 days after ordering. Very pleased with the product - easy to use. Already copied quite a few videos from camcorder without any problems. Would recommend

If you just want to burn bulk footage onto DVD or just want to copy stright from another DVD this machene is ok and burns well.There are very little options for editing.If you link your camara via firewire ? and want to burn just parts of your camara footage be carefull as the MC6 takes over the camara and starts burning eveything.There is no provision for burning seperate sound or earphone connection for moneiting sound while burning.I found it less frustrating using the manual burn option.For the price I feel Sony could have built in a few more options to the MC6 and for those that do not want or cannot manage computer editing I think there is an opertunity for Sony or someone else to produce an editing/burn machine that could sell well.Old grumpy

I got a reconditioned unit at about half the price of a new one about 9 months ago. I use it regularly to burn discs and it has performed well. Its very compact and would be easy to take away with me if I wished. My only regret is that it doesn't have a remote otherwise I could get one to hook up to my home CCTV system instead of still having to use VHS. And thats why it lost one star.I bought this second hand in 2012. Now in 2019, I would like to add: 1. its still going strong without any faults. 2. I wish it had s-video input. 3. I wish it was possible to playback recordings on it. However I still thoroughly recommend it!

Having read the previous review carefully, I purchased a reconditioned version of this via Amazon. What a bargain!!I wanted something that I could simply create HD disks from a new Sony Handycam, as well as easily create SD disks from an old miniDV Canon camcorder. In both situations it works perfectly.Delivery service was perfect!
