for home defense you've gotta have this
I bought this Streamlight, a pack of 3-volt batteries and a Bushnell Laser Boresighter 4 years ago. Since then I've only used 2 batteries and they weren't really that dim but I wanted to be safe.If you're going to possibly (but hopefully not) encounter a bad guy in your home, this tactical light and laser sight is an absolute must-have. The light is very bright so that I doubt if the person you're shining it at would know what's behind that light. With a boresighter sighting-in you know you would be hitting close enough to where that laser dot is shining. I sight my Glock 17 in for 20 feet which is reasonable for home defense. Always verify with paper targets, of course. This Streamlight is really solid. I've fired thousands of rounds with the sight attached. After 300 rounds you need to wipe off the lense with a damp cloth. It's easy to remove and re-sight if you need to. It toggles between just laser light, just tactical light or both at once. Something else very useful that wasn't clear when I bought it is that you can temporarily turn on whatever combination of lights you have with your index finger. Or click it the other direction with your finger to make the lights stay on.The TLR-2 has been around a while and they don't seem to be in a hurry to "upgrade" it. I hope they don't. It's already perfected in my opinion.

Great for Home Security
I love this. It's kind of bulky, and I would not use it for concealed carry, but the light is very bright, laser works great. It is perfect for home defense. I keep mine on the nightstand on my pistol. It is easy to reach the switch with your trigger finger. It can be removed and put back on very quickly if you want to take it of to use the weapon at the range without it. I recommended the same one to my brother and he's very happy with his too.

great product
Definitely worth the money! Very easy to attach to my glock .40 gen 4. Lights up a huge area and will definitely blind your attacker. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great tactical light/laser combo. You can buy cheaper but you get what you pay for. Don't settle for a cheap light trust me. The laser is very accurate and will go amazingly far.

Skeptical at first!!
This was my first firearm light and was skeptical at first but after researching it throughly I went for this setup. It was an excellent choice if I dont say so myself but this my review so take it for what it is worth. It was either this or Surefire or Insight and of the three this is the most economical for what its worth with the comboe light/laser and what I wanted. I mounted it on my S&W M&P .45 ACP with a 4.5 inch barrel and was worried that it wouldnt fit on my rail but it did perfectly. I love it. It looks good and is not too heavy to weight down the front of the gun. I am a disabled vet in a wheelchair as well and I have a difficult time holding the pistol in the firing posittion for very long my injury prevents me from doing so. So I opted for the laser combo so I can hold at waistlevel and fire downrange pretty accurately. Its a good buy so get one for yourself!!

Not good, probably the best of its class though
This is a pretty decent laser/light combo. Probably the best way to review it is to give a list of pros and cons.Pros:-Bright flashlight--this thing puts out a ton of light and is extremely helpful in the dark-Great attachment options--the light attaches to just about anything with a rail.-Easy to attach/detach--goes on and off in just a few seconds-Sturdy--The unit is hefty and should take a beatingCons:-Big--Good luck finding a holster to put this thing in. It sticks way past the front of my XD9 Service, which is a large weapon.-Laser is weak--The laser leaves a lot to be desired. I have a Crimson Trace on my LCR that blows this out of the water. This will only be useful in the dark.-Batteries--The batteries are expensive, but should last in storage for a long time. The bottom line is this is a great light for nightstand use and home defense in the dark (as long as the attacker isn't wearing black). I ended up returning mine, and hope to order a crimson trace for my XD one day. I'll take that and a dedicated flashlight over this combo setup.

Great purchase!
I just got this so I haven't had time to put it through the paces, but it fits nice and secure on my Sig p229 Generation 2 with E2 grips. The light on the TLR-2 is as bright as it would ever need to be. The laser seems pretty much dialed in out of the box and works well. I just need to take this thing to the range and see how well it holds up.

10 seconds of working.
The light worked for a total of 10 seconds before it gives in. Now all 3 modes are just laser. The good thing is Amazon return is super good, but still. It was meant as a birthday present and now I gotta buy it for so much more locally...
