Short for a machete
...but serves a purpose when carried in a backpack.

Works great
It has held up great and holds an edge while being put to work. For the price you can't beat it !

Really nice knife
This is just a big knife. if you are looking for a machete then buy a machete because this is not going to fill that roll for you but it is a good knife for camping when you just need something a bit larger than a standard knife. If you camp then you know what I mean.

Gerber is really improving!
Things are getting better. First of all the price is great on these! I bought two. The sheath isn't great but it’s not bad either. Very light weight and great to throw in a pack as a backup. Mine came with a good edge. I haven’t purchased anything from Gerber for years but the last few years they have really upped their game and came out with some nice stuff.

Not very useful
Not very sharp, not very cut-ful, not a good machete. Buy the Kershaw.

The sheath is doo doo.
Bought the Versafix Pro from a local retailer but wanted to review it here. I have yet to put this to use outdoors so I can’t comment much in the blade itself outside of the comfort and feel of it. Those are top notch. But since it’s a Gerber and I’ve got a 30 year history of buying Gerber gear, I’d most likely stake my life on the blade itself. Here’s where the 3 star rating comes from, however. The sheath...quite simply, it sucks. I get what Gerber was trying to do here. Versatility is literally in the name of this knife but again, the sheath sucks. To sheath the knife, you have to put it into 3 tabs blade first (think “Tab A goes into Slot A” type of thing). It’s an open faced sheath basically. Once the blade edge is in, it then the back edge “clicks” and locks in. Nothing to challenging but point being, it’s just not functioning. I’ve gotten around the fact that most knife sheathes are STILL made for right handers. As a lefty I either adapt well or I don’t buy it. But this is just blah. It’s also hard plastic with a belt loop. But it’s mostly made to strap to a ruck sack. They could’ve just done better. The non Pro model came with a nylon sheath. Had I the choice between the two at time of purchase, I would’ve went with that one. But hey, preference right?

Trash the sheath. Get a kydex
I like the balance. The sheath is garbage. It feels easy to use.
