Now we can pay tenant for power we use in shop.
We have a shop located on property near a house we rent to a tenant. We ran an underground line to the shop to run some lights, a water heater and a couple of saws and hand power tools and a small heater in the bathroom. The tenant was rightfully concerned about the power we use there as it is metered by the power company and he is billed for what we use along with what he uses. This meter was the answer to our problem. It needs a box, and we purchased from Home Depot a suitable breaker panel box, removed the guts and installed the meter in it. We drove a ground rod at the box. We ran a 10 gauge THHN wire set in 1inch conduit from the house panal, running thru a local shutoff switch (the sort used for hot tubs or air conditioners) required by code where line exited house and subsequently went underground. We have two hot legs (1 red and 1 black both of which we pass thru the the current transformer of the meter, providing 220 volts from a 30 amp breaker in the house panel). A white wire is the neutral for 110 volt use, and a green wire provides the necessary ground. At the shop we installed a simple breaker panal with a 220 breaker (10 amp) and 2 110 volt breakers (15 amp). We are aware the possible connected load is larger than the breaker, but we don't anticipate exceeding the capacity of the breaker, and should we do so, the breaker will operate, and will simply need to be reset. This device is up and working, and our tenant is happy to know we are metering our usage. It is not much. At 7 cents a KWH, we are using about 75 cents a month. We like knowing this.

Works like a champ. Easy installation
I like the ease of installation. It was quite simple. Just make sure that you snug up the two tap screws so that the meter gets power to run it. I put a DVD across the screws to verify the connection. Don't be alarmed if you don't get an immediate reading other than zeros. It takes some time for this meter to accumulate and display the power consumption. I bought the DIN rail and a Bud weatherproof lided box to put it in.

quality & fast delivery
Worked exactly as expected. Well made. Could have used a little more information for a 5 star.

One year, one star
Update: I purchased two of these and soon after I wrote the original review the main one failed. After talking to the manufacture, they explained to me that my unit was an old unit and did not have the upgrades and so was not did not qualify for any reimbursement on their part. They never did tell me how old my unit was but I only had it a little over a year. As the price of this is shot up along with everything else I don't recommend this to keep track of the power your garage light consumes. no faith in the company. Shortly after the one year mark on the other one like this it also failed and since it was the same model it was useless for any assistance. Old! WhatThis unit is still working after one year of constant use keeping track of my 5th wheel electric usage so I can pay my Land Lord and Lady (son in law and daughter). I have 3 other KWH meters by Poniie, PN2000 plug in meters for my full size fridges and freezers. The Poniie works but has too many bells and whistles for cost metering compared to the EKM. My EKM meter is constant, correct and no nonsense. I have had to reset the read out on the the Poniie every time the power browned out or failed yet there was no loss of metering. This unit brings itself right back up where it left off with out loss of metering or having to switch screens. I am a little concerned over the connectivity. As a retired electrician from a 1700+ megawatt power station, I prefer more sustenance with the conductors. It is simple to connect and I did not mount it on the DIN rail for fear of mechanically stressing the meter. It wraps around my RV feed conductors prior to all electrical connections very nicely. I should include a picture, but it is 110° F outside and 79° f inside and I have faith this meter is working correctly still. I will be purchasing another one of these KWH meters in the next week or a Poniie for an air conditioned storage shipping container I am completing. The fun of living in the valley of the sun, it may not freeze it, but it will burn it. Either way, whether I use another EKM or a Poniie, they will be inside preferably in the cool and definitely blocked from the sun's rays. I give the EKM 5 stars then take away one for connection engineering. It works, I think it could be a better meter if it had insulating grommets making it designed to "ride" the cables. For smaller wire, 10 awg and smaller, it gets 5 stars as it can be mounted safely on a DIN rail. I plan on completely redoing my RV electrical set up so that it is all on one panel and organized, then I will DIN rail mount my EKM meter and not worry about cable stress. Very Satisfied With the EKM!

Life saver
We share the same panel with another family and they didn't want to pay up for the bill they were racking up. My husband installed two, one for them and one for us and we are so glad we did. It showed that they were using nearly twice as much electricity as us. This more than payed for itself in just one month.

but it was super easy to install and worked instantly
Just put it in, so time will tell, but it was super easy to install and worked instantly. Bought this to monitor a new hot tub energy costs, because we also are getting a new furnace and AC next week and I want more granular info on energy cost changes with new systems going into my home. Very excited to see this device give me the info on what the new spa draws on my electric bill.

So far so good.
Needed to be able to record power usage on a tower that provides rural internet so it can be billed. Used the matching enclosure to mount it above the feed panel. Meter powered up at 0 and looks to be working. I managed to get 6ga wire in and out using the bottom holes in the enclosure. This was on a 50a circuit. If one was going to use this on a 100a circuit with this enclosure you will need to use both top and bottom entrances to fit the wire through. Each entrance is threaded for 1/2".
