J.A Henckels 22772345 Vintage 1876 45 PC Flatware Set w/Serving Spoon, Meat Fork & Butter Knife

These are not made in Germany. That being said, I don't care. This is a beautiful set. They have nice weight in your hand, wash and dry well and seem to resist scratches. I've had these a few months and they have been heavily used but still look like the day I got them. I thought the knives would just be good for butter and cutting soft things like potatos etc., but they cut everything! I also purchased steak knives when I got these, but I don't even need them unless I'm going for "looks" because these cut steak, chicken... everything! The only complaint is that the knife handles are fatter than the rest of the set. It feels good in my hand, but they JUST fit in the cutlery drawer without falling into the fork section. It doesn't bother me enough to take away a star. These are excellent quality and I would be suprised that anyone who tried them didn't like them.UPDATE 1/23/16 - almost 3 years laterI am still using and washing these daily since this is the only silverware/flatware set I have in my kitchen. I only hand wash because I don't have a dishwasher (much to my disappointment haha). They still look great, though they do show some light scratching, mostly consistent scratching on the fork tines. This doesn't bother me because they are heavily used in our house and my husband has this cute habit of tossing silverware into the sink from his seat at the kitchen table. Consequently our stainless steel sink looks a little beat too. There is no discoloration, no rusting, no bending -- except one of the larger spoons my husband used to scoop ice cream with even though we have 3 ice cream scoops and he's lucky I love him and think he's cute... he did bend it back and it looks as good as the others, I can't tell which one it was (it was only a slight bend, which is a testament to the strength of this set). Anyways, I still love the set and don't plan on replacing it for an extremely long time.

I love the weight and FEEL of them in my hand. I even love the FEEL in my mouth as I eat with them! Much nicer than fifty some year old silver plated silverware set I have used for decades. Even the knives are sharper than any set I have used like this , even at friend's homes! They easily cut meat and tough veggies. They look nice and I enjoy their simple pattern. The instructions say to be sure and use the drying cycle in your dishwasher. I have few dishes and so wash them by hand and now must dry these instead of leaving them in the rack to dry. However, I am doing so, because I really enjoy them otherwise. I have had some Zwilling knives for decades when you care for them properly! They outlast many other knives so I assume their flatware might be the same, and they appear to be. Their customer service is also excellent.

This set is beyond what I was expecting - the pieces are not light weight, sturdy and well balanced - bright shiny - I have not owned it long enough to know if it is rust resistant - but I anticipate it is - this set can be utilized for everyday and well as fine dining - and it includes a three piece serving set

Could not be more pleased with this set. Great design, weight and balance at a good price. Been using old junk mismatched flatware for years so decided to treat myself for Valentine’s Day. Looked at quite a few sets, even had one from another maker in my cart at the store and then put it back. I knew I could do better for my money. My good knives for many years are Henckels, so the brand choice was a no brainer for trusted quality. My set is made in Viet Nam, not China as some reviews have stated. This is not stamped on each piece, only noted on the box. Happy I took my time and kept looking for this design and maker. Buy this set, you really can’t go wrong.

This set looks and feels simple, casual, sturdy and classic. The forks and spoons (especially the spoons) are weighty in the hand. They feel like hotel or cruise line flatware, heavy and solid.The knife is the odd one out, a bit. It feels hollow in the handle. They could have left a little bit more metal inside for weight. However, the shape is so good in the hand, the unexpectedly light weight is soon forgotten. Don't be afraid of the short blade, it puts as much "knife" into the food as you'd use anyway. It cuts nicely and is balanced well enough.The spoons are notable. They are smooth on the edges and extremely firm, you never have to worry about spooning out ice cream, these handles won't bend.Another notable: the shine. Most people exaggerate when they say something is polished like a mirror. In this case, it's true. I bought this set for use at beaches and parks but I now use them daily.The design and heft are worth the money.=== Update March 18, 2013. I'm still using these, they're still great, shiny, easy to wash and altogether a super buy.I'm updating this because I received a query: was the set I purchased made in China? YES. I can't say that what they're making now is exactly the same as what I bought but the weight of reviews suggests it is.I have been reading a lot of reviews in Amazon.com lately which sound to me like some sort of xenophobic response to products rather than honest, accurate reviews of the thing itself. I wish I didn't think so but that's where my thoughts are trending.My set was much better than expected when I first bought it and friends have remarked since that it's holding up well. I've been known to take these camping and wash them with sand and water. They're still shiny.

Very happy with this flatware but the knives are very heavy in the handle. They tend to fall off the side of the plate if placed there after cutting your food.

I use this as my regular silverware and love it! The quality and weight is perfect; I have had these about 6 weeks now and have yet to see any dulling in the finish. They still look like brand new. I highly recommend this set.
