Touched to the core.
A marvelous intergenerational weave. The struggle of the Nazi occupation of Poland and the contempraneous struggle of a marriage blessed with a special needs child. A journey that took me to so many places of hurt and hope. I finished it with tears in my eyes, more healed in my own moments of loss and grief. It helped me break through in areas of my own silences; silences that protected secret wounds that desperately needed shouting out under the sun of truth. Thank you! Kelly.

Fabulous book
I totally enjoyed this book and have recommended it to my friends and family. Each time I read the stories of Europe during the Nazi invasion I realize the millions that haven't been told. Love the story being told between the two woman past and present. Couldn't put it down . Bravo Kelly Rimmer ...well done!

Great book
I really enjoyed this one. It’s told in a dual timeline, with the past taking place during WWII. The last two chapters were my favorite. I found this to be an interesting and unique read. Not quite a five-star read for me mostly due to my own timing in reading it. I’m a teacher and started it near the end of the school year. I was too exhausted to read most of the time so it took me a very long time to finish. But great book overall.

Such a compelling book...truly riveting!
I couldn’t put this book down! The story is deeply moving and incredibly authentic, offering powerful insight into the struggles of the Polish people during WWII and the challenges faced by families navigating life with a loved one on the autism spectrum. While these themes may seem worlds apart, the author masterfully intertwines them into a truly unforgettable narrative. This is one you won’t want to miss!

Very engaging story
I laughed, I cried, and I was surprised by the ‘truth’ Alice found on her trip. Not usually what I read, but I’m glad I did.

Important
This is an important book ... one that tells a heart-wrenching story. I think it's vital that we read stories of love and tragedy that happened during World War II. This is so much more than you ever learned in school.

Heartbreaking yet heartwarming
First Kelly Rimmer book I've read and I wasn't sure what to expect. WOW! I love history being woven into books/novels and this was such a heartbreaking tale yet at the same time very heartwarming to see how true love stays with a person and how when necessary, it can push a person forward

well written
Good use of story of individuals to tell Poland’s story during Nazi control. I found the great love a bit over whelming and unrealistic but could imagine two young people who shared such tragedies being loyal to each other. I just couldn’t buy that it wasn’t a true marriage after 60 plus years.
