helpful specialty tool
needed this for clamps on my subaru...expect to work on other japanese vehicles, so decided to go ahead and get 'em. Works well, but need to know which direction to place the tool on the clamps. Takes a second to figure out, but play w/ a spare clamp for a minute and you've got it.

A needed tool
I wish I had purchased these years ago. They remove the spring clamps and reattach them. I did not need the new clamps that I purchased. These worked great.

heavy and strong tool fits firmly in your hand. The adjustable saddle screws are definitely an advantage.

They work
I had some smaller clic clamps to remove for my promaster van coolant reservoir. These work for those (roughly 1/2" to 3/4 diameter). Not sure how effective they would be on larger clic clamps (I haven't seen any larger ones in person yet. Unsure if the clic feature remains the same size or does it scale with the size of the clamp?) Was nervous they would snap after seeing another review on here but I'm not sure how they would considering the little amount of force needed to undo the smaller clamps. There is a learning curve and they are directional depending on installing vs removal so maybe someone didn't have the finesse to use these properly? Overall they seem to be a standard lisle quality tool (better than no name import stuff, certainly not tool truck level).

Their Great Pliers
I like the size, adjustability of the jaws, longer length, offset head. These are a great addition to your toolbox if you're working with spring band clamps on your vehicle. Very happy with this purchase. They are of a larger size so you might consider buying a smaller band pliers to complete your toolbox. If you don't have a set of band clamp pliers get some, cause all the other pliers just don't work as well as these do. Well worth the investment.

This feature prevents the spring clamp from flying off like happens when you're trying to use pliers
Changed the hoses on my 2008 Jeep Liberty and couldn't get the spring clamp back on the bottom hose after trying for about 30 minutes due to space limitations. I had to use a screw clamp which I knew would fail in time. So I ordered this tool, removed the screw clamp and replaced it with the original spring clamp. The tool worked perfectly! No more squeezing clamps with pliers that slip most of the time and much safer than pliers as this tool clamps on to the clamp and holds it in an open position large enough to slip over the hose. This feature prevents the spring clamp from flying off like happens when you're trying to use pliers. Can't imagine how much damage a flying spring clamp could do to someone's face or eyes. The time it takes to replace a spring clamp with this is far less than with any pliers. I highly recommend this tool for anyone working on cars.

Buy the best (This One) Forget the rest
Bought this for removing and installing the flat Mopar OEM style hose clamps on my Jeep Wrangler TJ, and this tool is awesome.I'm certain there are other tools such as this one that are probably just as good, or maybe better, but I can only review this tool. Firstly, it's made in the USA which is important to me, secondly it's very easy to use, and thirdly the build quality from my observation is excellent. It has a ratcheting action to it as you squeeze the handles, which opens the clamp, and it stays in it's position until you release the ratchet mechanism. Screws on tool jaws can be adjusted in for larger diameter sized clamps, or turned out (loosened) to accommodate smaller clamps.I'm impressed with this tool. I think you will be too. Get this one, you won't be disappointed.

Very good tool, worth buying
I used it on the lower radiator hose on my 2002 Sebring convertible. Much easier to use than a slip joint pliers. My repair book recommends using the factory hose clamps as they expand/contract where as the regular worm clamps don't. So do yourself a favor and buy this tool. And save $10 over local parts store price.
