Great Picture - Painful FTP setup that should have been easy
UPDATE *10/24/2018*Received an email from seller, offering a refund or another camera. As I noted earlier in my review, the picture quality is 5 stars, still is.Getting the features to work the way they should is a difficult learning curve. Some additional things I've learned:For the Email setting, if you have 2 step verification enabled in your email (such as gmail), it will never work, but won't tell you why, leading you to believe it is the incorrect password.I created a separate gmail account purely for camera communication, and set its 2-step verification to off in the google account settings.Key Settings for Emails that contain picture attachments:SMTP Server = smtp.gmail.comServer Port = 465Encrypt Type SSLAuthentication = ONUsername = [email protected] = myPasswordSend to = [email protected] = [email protected] = Motion Camera 1The test button will send a single test message with a picture to the account if all works well. Takes about 10-20 seconds when it does work. The WiFi has been very stable, unlike some other cameras I have. The false triggering of motion has proven to be difficult to avoid. This has been true on most cameras I've tried.Bugs are drawn to the the infrared lights, and trigger the camera motion. The sensitivity settings even set very low still trigger for this.Still a pretty good camera, with common limitations. At this price point, it's a very good value.******First, if I was rating the camera for picture quality, I'd give it 5 stars. The setup on the IOS CamHi app was initially pretty smooth. The documentation is awful.Installing the Micro SD card was a simple matter of 4 screws and pushing it down into the slot until it clicked. Card contacts toward front of camera. The motion detection allows selection of a portion of the screen and then a level of 1-100 for sensitivity. This will take some trial and error.I wanted this camera primarily for the FTP capability, so that the picture files are stored in a secure location even if the camera is taken.Connecting to my Netgear ReadyShare through FTP using the phone app proved to be a 6 hour ordeal. The lack of screenshots with proper settings required trying every combination imaginable, none of them working.I finally installed the Windows application that also had a screen for setting FTP configurations and tried them all again. After working through every combination again, one finally worked.Key setting values:Server Addr = just the IP address, nothing else. example 10.10.1.1Server Port = 21User Name - appears to be case sensitive. You must use security. If you have your FTP server setup locally without outside connections, you still have to require a sign-in.On Netgear ReadyShare, by default no security is required. Be sure to enable popups when working in the Netgear config screens, or you will never see the screen where you turn this on. Chrome never would popup the screen, had to use Edge to get it.Password (case sensitive)Passive Mode - I've set mine to off, but it works both ways.Path - My root folder name is usb, so I set this value to usb/I hope this saves someone else a headache.I'm going to reset everything and try it again and see if I can get it all to setup from within the app only.I'll update this post later.Well, that stinks. I reset the camera, and was able to blow through the setup in just a couple of minutes on the CamHI app.Until I got to the FTP... Using the previous working values that I captured in a screenshot from both the Windows app and the CamHI app, I am unable to get the FTP to connect using just the CamHI application. I will have to go into the Windows app again, which I removed entirely using a restore point and set the values there. Some kind of bug in the CamHI app. Once the values get set by the Windows app, the CamHI app works, but not until they are first set by the Windows app.PLEASE FIX AND TEST THE FTP PORTION OF THE CAMHI APP!

Very capable camera with multiple features and terrific price - does take a bit of time to get setup with management software.
Considering price vs feature function I have given this product 5 stars. The camera itself provides a very clear image.Wifi reception works well. Am considering setting up a separate wifi router to handle continuous image broadcast.Has several options. How to use and setup the options is the most confusing aspect of the camera and I'm still learning which features I care about.Camera Setup: instructions in box was not completely accurate. Seller did pro-actively send an email with correct installation steps. Unfortunately for me I did not see them immediately and spent a fair amount of time working through the wrong steps. Setup looks to require a smart phone app. At least that seems to be the simplest way to setup and it works well.Physical installation: The camera mount has limited movement and required me to change where I mounted the camera. It would have been much simpler and easier if the camera mount had greater movement flexibility. However, at the price point of the camera, and using a bit of forethought an optional mounting location can be found that works. Just be cognizant of where the hex tightening screws are located so that you position the mount in a location with access to those screws. If the pricing was higher I would have knocked off a star rating for the hassle and limited positioning range.Solution: This is just the camera and communication link. Managing the camera and the images requires additional software. I am working through and testing various software packages to see which one fits my needs best. There are some security settings in both camera and management software that have to be worked through to get images sent. Not a huge issue but may take additional time to figure out how to coordinate between camera and software.
