A very useful tool, excellent quality.
If you find yourself having to work with larger diameter pipe for any reason, a strap wrench is a good tool to have in your toolbox - a couple of advantages: It is very lightweight, it can be used in very tight spaces, it is fast (almost instant) size adjusting, it does not put "teeth marks" in the pipe, and it provides a surprising amount of leverage. This particular strap wrench (the 5P) is designed for working with plastic pipe - as of this writing Ridgid makes two such models (the 2P and the 5P) the smaller 2P has a handle length of 11.75" and can be used with PVC (or other plastic) pipe with an outside diameter of up to 3.5" in - this translates to 3" capacity PVC pipe. The model being sold here is the larger 5P, which is the one I have been using - it can be used with up to 5.5" outside diameter plastic pipe (this is 5" capacity PVC pipe) and it also works well smaller pipe diameters - I have been using it regularly down to 2" PVC and it works great.Of course, a strap wrench is really meant to work with "soft" pipe such as brass, aluminum, or (in this case) plastic pipe - not iron pipe, and with iron there are times when I wish I had a gargantuan 48" monster like the Ridgid 31115 48-Inch Aluminum Pipe Wrench (Ridgid actually makes a 60" as well) to free up that maddeningly frozen fitting, but for working with larger diameter plastic pipe the Ridigd 5P is my favorite tool.
