Wasn't the quality of my friend's Schrade multi-tool
I was on a trip with a friend when I had the occassion to use his Schrade multi-tool. I was immediately impress and thought I had to have one. His was in a nice leather pouch, a little shiny, and very smooth operating. I was excited about it and bought one thinking it would be just like his. When it came I was gravely disappointed, No leather case, but maybe he bought a replacement (though I dont' think so). But certainly not anywhere near as polished nor smooth. It was not what I had in the back of my mind that this tool should be. I've got two Leatherman Tools and just thought I would like the design of this one better. And yes I think the design is better than Leatherman, but I wasn't fond of the quality of this particular unit. Again, I know they can make a great multi-tool... but this one that I received wasn't it... and I returned it.

Loved it
I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my daughter. She loves it! It was what they said it would be, great quality, and shipped quickly.

Pretty is..... as pretty does....
For under $15, these are an incredible value. Sure - they are now made in China.... and, sure - they aren't near the same quality of the "American-made" originals - but still - they beat the pants off most other imported multi-tools in this price range. That said, the fit and finish on the plier head is not perfect. There are obvious rough grind marks and the final shaping is not uniform - leaving just a bit to be desired in multi-tool aesthetics. Still, the pliers - though not as "pretty and polished" as a Leatherman - work well. Yes, there is a little flex in the handles when you bear down hard - but these were made for light-to-moderate duty tasks - and not to overhaul your Mack truck on the side of the interstate. Be reasonable people - no tool will make you a MacGyver. Both the eyeglass-type screwdriver and the regular flathead are rounded on the edges and corners of the blade tip. Both will benefit from a light "squaring up" on a grinder to keep from slipping out of a screw slot (but - then again - I even had to do this on my Leatherman Wingman before they would tackle a screw). The file and saw are sufficient enough - but not stellar. The knife blades are not razor sharp - but sharp enough for most tasks other than tonsorial. I didn't find the tool lock as difficult to disengage as some have described. So - even with all its warts - this is a great deal for the money. These are economical enough to have several laying around the house or in your automobiles. It would also be quite suitable for young or novice multitool users. Many of the superficial flaws can be modified to satisfaction. She may not be the prettiest girl on the block - but, as an old friend of mine used to say - "pretty is.... as pretty does"...... and, for the price, this one does it pretty good.

A must have
Schrade makes the best multitool out there. This one is unfortunately now sourced in China. It looks as good as my US made Schrade but we'll see.

Great tool but not built like they used to be
This is the second Schrade multi tool I've had in 39 years. I still have my original one but lost the case. Ordered another complete tool (tool and case). Had the new one for two weeks. The blade/ implements used to be riveted. More they are threaded. One of the threaded fasteners loosened and fell out. Workmanship isn't even close to what it used to be...sad but true, another dynasty bites the dust!
