Long time user, have seen the many changes, most recent change was for the best.
This has been my go-to hair color for over fifteen years, which means I have seen make some changes over the years. I am happy they have gone back to what is quite close to what I originally started using all those these ago. They have done away with the color refresher packet-thank goodness for that-and the tube of conditioner is the bigger tube once again. Another thing I am grateful for. I absolutely love the conditioner and don't think I am alone in that sentiment.I am almost 3/4 gray, as I started getting gray hair at 15 years old, and Natural Instincts covers all those pesky grays completely. I do leave it on my roots for about 25 minutes before working it through and adding the remaining color to my ends. Altogether I leave the dye on my hair for about 45 minutes before rinsing it off in the shower. I also shampoo after rinsing, although the directions don't include to do so. I then condition my hair, step out of shower and VIOLA...gray hair gone, and I have what appears to be my natural brown color. I have also had nice results mixing with Egyptian Plum (burgundy/brown..32, which is now color 4RV).The box includes:1 bottle colorant (55ml)1 applicator bottle which has 55ml of activator inside of it.1 tube of conditioner (55ml).A sheet of directions with disposable gloves folded inside.I have fairly coarse, long and wavy hair and the conditioner lasts me at least 4 washings. I only use about 1/4 of it the day I dye my hair and save the rest for when my hair seems to need some attention, which isn't frequent and I often use the same tube of conditioner by the time I am ready to dye my hair again. I only wash my hair about every three days so my color lasts over a month and is done partly to avoid having to start using a permanent dye. I find myself only coloring again once my hair grows enough to where I have what I jokingly call my "skunk strip".I love that I can purchase three boxes at a time because I like having extra boxes on hand in case the mood to cover my "skunk stripe" strikes.I am a long time fan of Natural Instincts and am happy that I still see great results even as my hair progressively gets more grays. I don't see myself changing brands anytime soon.

Toasted Almond is a Lie
I hate it when people don't specify the exact color they're reviewing, so let me do that: #12, Toasted Almond. It sucks. I had ash blonde hair to begin with, and this turned day-glo RED on me. Yes, I realize that "golden" colors can show warmth -- I'm fine with that. But, there is a huge difference between golden and red. I look great with golden highlights, and absolutely awful with red. So, Clairol needs to re-name this color and also describe it differently. I will never in my life purchase this color again. However -- the quality of the product itself is outstanding. For me, it lasts about 2 months with washing hair every other day, and the conditioner is wonderful. I simply picked the wrong color, based on its "golden" description. Ordinarily, I use #14, Tweed (light cool brown) -- but because there was such an ashy tone to my hair already, I didn't want to overdo it with the ash, so I chose "Toasted Almond". They should just call it "Red Nuts", because it didn't look like any toasted almond I've ever seen. It's red. So red. I have actually tried to strip it as best I could using dish soap and multiple shampoo sessions -- it slightly faded. "Pink Nuts". Then, I went over it with my usual shade ("Tweed") -- it did tone SOME of the redness down, but it's still quite glowy and obnoxious. I just don't recommend this color to anyone who doesn't look good in bright red tones.

My "tweak" to the 10-minute method....
I'm reviewing Clairol Natural Instincts 6G (Light Golden Brown / Toasted Almond). I've been using Nat. Instincts for years, and have tried various colors, finally settling on this one as best for me. My natural color was a light brown, with golden highlights (in my younger days) :) I really liked the "overall" color of the 6.5G (Lightest Golden Brown / Amber Shimmer), as it was closer to my natural color, but it was just too light to cover the grays. Before Clairol came up with their "10 min. method", I had developed my own timing method, and was reluctant to try this new "10 min." one. I still "tweak" it a little. I had unintentionally gone about 7-1/2 weeks since my last color, and I was really surprised by how much more gray hair I had than just last year! I still don't quite follow their method "to the letter", but here's what seems to work for me: I apply the color first to a prominent gray "patch", and to my roots. Then, I wait 10 min. BEFORE applying the remaining color to the rest of my hair. After applying it to the rest of my hair, I wait 5 more mins. and then rinse out and condition. This makes a total of 15 mins. The end result is slightly darker than my natural color, for the first week or two, but it gradually gets lighter. My grays get a lovely, slightly "reddish" tone, which blends in nicely, and makes it look very natural (instead of that "flat" one-tone look you get with some hair dyes). That's why I like the semi-permanent hair color - It looks very natural, fades out gradually, and I don't have a "definite" root line that ever shows. In fact, sometimes I don't even notice that my grays are showing! I can generally go about 5 - 6 weeks before coloring again. Hope this helps someone!
