Hello, it's more of a polish like a base coat; however, I do not put on color nail polish after, I just use it as a stand alone polish. It's not a serum where you can rub on.

Q: does it sting on nails that are short from bitting I have the opi nail envy and I can't use it because it stings

I have never had that problem. My nails are very short and I use this in between gel nails.
