Easy job, just follow the YouTube videos.
Engine won't crank? Broken pin. Would love to just replace the pin, but you have to buy the camshaft. Bad design, the pin is too thin. That said, the R&R was easy - most of the time was spent scraping the gasket off. Yes, there are multiple videos on this engine - check them out for backup. You can easily pop the center bolt of the pulley shaft by torqing against a pair of vise grips on the shaft. To get governor on properly, set motor vertical - support with 2x4 blocks - engage gears and set pin on stop, then close up. Install oil pump after the case is sealed. Adjust the valves to spec, don't mix up the pushrods. Crank with plug out to avoid a dry start, run and then change oil/filter.I recommend never shutting down the motor at speed - flywheel inertia likely to increase the number of times the pin hits the lifter. Set idle as low and stable as possible, idle down completely before shutdown.Engine runs just fine, one month in. The unit had about 3 years use, we will see how long it lasts this time.

what a unreliable product from B&S co.
My riding lawn mower only got 180 hrs from new and the cam shaft is busted. I expect may be 20 years later and the cam shaft die. It is too soon for such product. To replace it is not a difficulty job but I do not have the proper power tools to speed up the procedure. It took me a whole day to do the job. Those two gaskets Amazon recommend to order them may not be needed in my case. I was able used the old gaskets with a little liquid gasket to fix about 1/4 in broken oil pan gasket. B&S should be shame at them with such unreliable product. If you search u-tube, you would find a lot of broken cam shaft in those B&S co engine.

perfect replacement camshaft and lifters for Briggs OHV engines.
perfect fit replacement camshaft for Briggs OHV engines. my is a 17hp IC type. There were a couple years when Briggs had a problem with the metal used for the camshaft lobes being too soft and it caused galling. Unfortunately my engine falls into those couple years of manufacture. was running worse and worse until I finally decided to adjust the valves to find the intake valve was barely moving...almost no lift at all...Im surprised it was running at all. what I found when I tore the engine down fully explained why it was acting like a 5hp instead of a 17hp. lolall better now and running fantastic!!will also need a crankcase gasket part number 697110 and I would recommend replacing the head gasket and valve cover gasket to. gasket kit part number 794152 , that kit also comes with a new intake valve stem seal and exhaust, and intake gaskets.

Perfect Replacement
I have an Ariens Single Cylinder 46" with the B&S Engine. Apparently in this engine, it is very common for the camshaft to grenade the 'compression relief'. It is a centrifugal lobe that temporarily releases pressure in order for the starter to be able to more easily spin the engine at startup. This lobe drops as soon as the engine starts spinning under power and makes no difference once running. The symptoms you will see will first be thought to be a bad starter, maybe bad battery, valve adjustments, etc, only to lead you to this part. Replacing it required removal and breakdown of the engine. You will need to by a few gaskets and readjust the valves (by a valve clearance measuring stick). Check youtube, they are much better guidance than myself. All that to say, this is a factory replacement and worked great and now my mower runs like a champ again. If it helps, I placed this in a Briggs and Stratton Model 3317777 Type 2472G5 in an Ariens Model 936053.
