Lee Precision 457-340-F Double Cavity Mold

Bought this mold on a whim. Figured I couldn't go wrong for the price. I cast up 150 bullets in the first session from recovered range scrap. I powder coated them with super durable gloss black and loaded them unsized over 27.0 of Accurate 5744 and crimped in the crimp groove. This load shoots one ragged hole at fifty yards with the peep sights on my Marlin. Functions perfectly from the magazine. Couldn't be happier with this bullet and load.

My wife got me a 45 70 shotgun adaptor from chaszel for my bday. I got this mold to cast and reload the 45 70 cartridge. Rounds shot well with no issues.

Casts easily. Typical Lee quality aluminum mould. Joins the many I already own and use!Easy to throw flawless lead boolets- with just a little practice- out of wheel weights.I expect a big rash of cars with front end wheel balance shimmies about to happen locally pretty soon!! (lol!)

Makes excellent uniform quality bullets. The key is to pour/fill fast and keep your mould hot. It only takes about 10 seconds for the mould to cool down enough to drop the bullets out. By the way, dropping the bullets into water makes them harder. To keep them as soft as possible, let them cool slowly (preferred for air rifles). YES - Air Rifles also shoot BIG caliber bullets. I shoot the Airforce Texan .457 caliber.

Using wheel weights the bullet's weighed 338 grains. After polymer coating they weighed 340 grains. I've fired 50 so far and obtained 3 inch groups at 100 meters. The only down side is it's not available in a 6 cavity mold.
