Works fine if installed properly.
This unit works fine, fitted one to my wife’s Skoda Rapid Spaceback. You have to take out the glove box. It is easy enough, just take your time. There are a lot of torx type screws, one of which is hidden under the plastic panel next to the door which should be carefully popped off to access it. The lead to the glove box light is quite short so have an assistant hold the weight of the glove box whilst you disconnect it to avoid straining the cable. Once the glove box is removed the unit is to the top right of the fan. This one had some furry sound deadening that you have to carefully pull away (it is glued in place) to see the it. A quarter turn with the top rotating toward you. (ie clockwise if you were looking at the top) removes it. What is VITALLY important is that when you re-install it you must make sure that the green resistive element Points vertically down, and NOT horizontally. You will feel a dull click when it is properly installed. For the uninitiated this thing speed controls the fan by dropping the voltage to it. In position 4 there are no resistors used and it runs flat out, at position 1 all of the resistors are in the circuit and they drop the voltage to the fan making it run slower. Speeds 2 and 3 just use a different number of resistors in between all and nothing. This means the resistors get very hot (which is why they eventually fail). This is why the unit must be installed properly. When installed properly (vertically) the air from the fan cools the resistors, so they don’t overheat. However if it is installed incorrectly (horizontally) the resistors are not in the air flow and worse still can touch on the pollen filter. Looking at some of the complaints and the pictures it seems that many have failed and people have complained of smells etc after installing it incorrectly with the end touching the filter and burning it - rather than the part being in anyway faulty. One other thing. If you disconnect the passenger airbag switch to completely remove the glovebox, then reconnect it before you turn on the ignition again, otherwise the ECU will record and airbag fault which will need re-setting (guess how I found this out!)

VW 2016 Polo fixed
After much googling, I worked out this was the part I needed to make my manual air blower control work again. Basically, the dial would not work on setting 1, but did on 2,3 and 4. So you’ll find YouTube videos on how to refit this part, but you need to take your glove box out to get to it. Then it’s in the most awkward ever location for which you need a small hand to grip. Twist the old one anti clockwise to get it out, remove it from the tube it sits in, switch the old fuse for the new, reseat in the tube, then twist clockwise so it fastens there tight. You have to make sure the plastic fitting has locked into the tube or there will be a slight smell in your cabin when the fuse gets hot. So take your time and know it’s awkward but it’s a great part and will fix blower/heater problems for a fraction of the dealer cost.

Good spare part
But it is never easy to install it.....I had to go to some car repair shop and pay extra 20 quids to get it in...I already got it in the right place but it needs an extra click to be fitted, that I could not do ...

Poor quality moulding
It works when you eventually get it connected but we had to file back the plastic on both sides of the clip at it was too tight to fit otherwise…

Worked fine for me
The resistor was fairly easy to install once you have removed part of the dash board and the glove compartment. I think it would be possible to install the resistor incorrectly, it should be vertical when fitted and not horizontal. Just make a note of the way the old one comes out. I wonder if this is the cause of the burning smell that some people have reported. Anyway I fitted mine a few weeks ago and the heater works perfectly on all four speeds and no burning smell.

Polo GTI Fan
Sorted out my 6R Polo Fan from only working on one speed setting, Bit of a faff to fit, but thats not the fault of the resister or the supplier, more the tight space in the car to work in

Poor moulding - did not fit correctly
Used in a Mk3 Skoda Fabia. Spent ages trying to twist it into position. Eventually compared it to the actual Skoda part and could see that the outer moulding was not the same as the OEM part. I had to "adjust" the lips with a stanley knife to get it to turn and lock correctly in the hole. The fit was still not great though, so I'm going to acquire a proper OEM part and do the job again.

Easy fix
Exactly as described fitted to a 2013 VW Polo R alone 1.2. Took about 30mins to fit and works perfectly.
