A great sewing machine for the price.
For the price, this is a very decent machine. Not as smooth and quiet as my old Kenmore, but it’s an easy to use, no nonsense workhorse, and it tracks nice and straight, even when sewing close to the edge, so you aren’t having to struggle to keep it straight. On this machine, it’s absolutely key to make sure you thread it correctly, and to make sure the thread gets into the tension discs on the inside. This means, as you thread downwards in that long channel and back up, hold the thread at the top (before the channel) tightly and this will make sure the thread catches in the tension discs properly as you go down and back up. If you don’t do this, there is a good chance you’ll experience knotting in the bobbin, which I’ve seen some people complain about. Overall, I really like the functionality of this sewing machine - perfect for beginners as well as experienced sewers.

VERY PLEASED
I killed my other Singer making masks and bought this one refurbished for less than repair to the other would cost me. I normally sew outdoor cushions and dog bedding and upholstery fabrics for home use and don't need fancy stitches or features, just a sturdy machine that is above all reliable and easy to troubleshoot. This fit the bill perfectly. The features are simple to understand and use, it is easy to clean, easy to store extra items, and compact. I prefer a drop-in bobbin rather than a vertical-load and the self-thread needle even works with thicker upholstery thread. It is very easy to use (if you have sewn before its ridiculously easy), easy to thread, easy to wind bobbins, the foot lift and thread cutter are intuitively-placed and the features for heavy fabrics are nice to have. I'd buy this again.

Great sewing machine
The media could not be loaded. This machine is easy to use, and warm up to. It's a great value for the money, and it's a great first sewing machine. I know Singer from way back, as I learned to sew on one. I have 3 Singer vintage sewing machines, they all run like a charm! I'm no expert, but I do know my way around a sewing machine. I know a good one when I see one!

Heavy Duty? I Think Not.
I've used this machine for about 3 or 4 months now, and I can confirm that it's NOT for heavy duty projects like it claims. Sadly, Singer quality on the whole has gone down in the last few decades, and I fell for the heavy-duty advertising and nostalgia from seeing my grandma use older Singer machines. I've learned that the bobbin case has high tension, and tends to get tangled with threads if the tension is off at all. It makes me sad that this machine hasn't held up to my projects, even when I'm just using a couple layers of linen. Please don't fall for the heavy-duty label, it's false.

It’s nice for the price
The directions are garbage and I’m still trying to understand all the controls but I’m slowly getting there. Excited to see what this machine can do. This is not my first sewing machine but I find this one to be much more confusing than others I’ve purchased

Very good for sewing multiple layers. Really like it.
I make handbags. It works very good. Really can’t afford to get one of the larger ones that’s more commercial. They’re pretty expensive. This one works great.

This is not the Singer quality you would expect
I bought the Singer HD 4423 thinking it would be a great machine to learn how to sew and thinking that it would stand the test of time as my mother always had a Singer sewing machine. Well, the machine with a $200 price tag has a lot of plastic pieces including the bobbin, the bobbin case and the sewing foot guides. After three months of mild use the bobbin stopped spinning. For all you sewers out there- no it was not because of lint build up. It just stopped. I contacted Singer, because of course the Amazon return deadline had passed. Singer sent me list of authorized warranty repair centers in my State. In the entire State, there is only one, that's right one (1) When asked the Singer Customer Service representative why after only three months of use, I already had a problem with the machine, the customer service representative said " it is what it is." Well, what also " is what it is" this machine is not worth buying. Save your money, learn from my mistake a buy from a manufacturer that will produce a quality product and stand by their product. Don't buy the Singer HD, it is not heavy duty at all, it will not last and good luck finding a repair center in your area.
