Don't buy this package with un-needed upgrades. Tech support unresponsive.
This package deal comes with 8GB Memory to install in the Synology. However, the Synology comes with 8GB pre-installed. It cannot accept 8GB more, so this is unusable extra memory, for which you are paying. That was not made clear prior to purchase.Separately, one of the hard drives came DOA. I have been unable to get a response from customer support for 4 days now to know whether they will replace the drive. Amazon claims this order is unavailable for full refund. The Aventis support page says they accept returns for a 15% restocking fee (over $200!). However, since everything has been opened (the only way to know whether a drive even is DOA), so I don't know if I even qualify for that option any more. And since Aventis support is unresponsive, I can't ask! Really don't want to start using the product if I'll need to send the whole thing back (at a loss), so instead I'm sitting in limbo with a $1500 hole in my pocket and a beautiful, but unusable, black box on my desk. Extremely frustrated with my experience so far, remaining in the dark. (Admittedly, a first world problem.)EDIT:3 weeks; still no response from seller after multiple attempts to contact them.EDIT:2 months; still no resolution. Seller responded within 24 hours of my last edit. Sent defective product back. Neither replacement nor refund has been issued to me. Reduced from 2 stars to 1 star.

Support Your Products
Bought this Synology DS1522 to replace my Synology DS1511 that was finally failing after ten years. However, Migration Assistant does not support backup of the 1511 to the 1522. Really? This whole affair is not intuitive. I should just return it and back up everything to a cloud subscription. Regret the purchase.

Whitelisting Garbage Scum Practices
Companies like HP and Lenovo make proprietary hardware but a similar trend is whitelisting hardware. Synology does this. Rather than trust those with their builds they whitelist for "your safety" which is reall their bottom line. You will pay twice as much for standard rebranded Synology Hard Drives, RAM, etc... This is why people have to build from scratch. This is why people don't trust car dealerships, printer companies, etc... Just another corporation scamming you for money. I recommend you look into different NAS options. Incredibly disappointed with Synology. I hope the feel the financial backlash. There is already plenty of things to dump money into, making machines with limited options and overpriced parts is just trying to get extra for nothing but foolishness.
