I don’t know for sure but it did pick up my voice very well in person. It might be all right if the person recording is on a phone.

The book says what you record..you read the book and record it.

Q: Is it easy to accidentally delete the recording? Know how much kids like to push buttons, wouldn't want to lose the recording.

No. The button you have to push to record is under a screwed down cover. I’ve given them to 11 grandchildren and none of them have been erased.
