A must-read for anyone who wants to secure more resources for their non-profit.
As the CEO of a medium-sized non-profit, I've read a lot of books and attended many workshops and conferences about fundraising. Dr. Polivy's innovative approach focuses on building a long term relationship with the donor, understanding the donor's motivations and goals and creating opportunities for giving along a continuum. Her easy-to-understand explanations and real life examples make this book very useful. It is helpful for seasoned development professionals as well as those who are just getting started. I'm eager to put her advice into practice!

Dr. Polivy Truly Understands How to Help Non Profits Establish a Professional Fundraising Program
I have been a professional fundraiser for 30 years. I truly understand the pressure of choosing between the need to meet immediate financial goals and to the benefit of looking to the long-term. Dr. Polivy's perspective and emphasis on cultivation and the importance of not making your fundraising relationships "transactional" is absolutely correct and her examples illustrate this perfectly. Dr. Polivy understands how to build and keep relationships but what I adored about this book is that Dr. Polivy's philosophy extends to all-size donors and all-size development offices. Every new and seasoned fundraisers would benefit from reading this book, however, I really want to encourage every executive director or leader of a nonprofit organization who supervises a fundraiser to read this book so they have a better understanding of how to define fundraising success, what to look for when hiring a professional fundraiser for their organization, and to help them determine - alongside of their fundraising professional - what their own organizational cultivation philosophy, plan, and goals should be.Madelene FranceseEast Haddam, Connecticut

Dr. Deborah Polivy wrote the must read of the year for every professional and lay leader in the non-profit world
I wish I could make this book required reading for the development professionals and lay leaders I counsel as part of my work as a consultant in the non-profit world. In a clear and concise manner, Dr. Polivy expertly teaches us how to create, maintain and grow effective donor relationships. She is a master at balancing the theoretical and the practical while also managing to relay some surprising findings from the recent literature. I urge donors who care about the organizations they support, to buy this book as a gift for the fundraising staff in the organization. I found her chapter on re-engaging lapsed donors particularly useful, especially her tactics on re-engaging.

A very useful book for leaders of nonprofit organizations
Dr. Polivy writes with clarity and authority about the importance of cultivating relationships with people. She specifically focuses on the people who want to donate to your organization, but her advice about cultivating donors , is good for cultivating all relationships with people who like to help out. The book supplies a model that is easy to use, is full of good advice and very well written.

Accessible framework for professionals and lay leaders
Dr. Polivy has provided the best framework I have seen in the non-profit fund-raising world because it gives professionals and lay-leaders a common language and implementable actions to consider when fund-raising for annual, capital and endowment needs. Her real-world examples help make clear the theoretical underpinnings. I have heard consultants and others in the field say some of what is here, but this comprehensive and accessible book puts it all in one place.
