Great bulb for bringing up baby chickens indoors. Hasn't quit working yet.
Had this thing on 24/7 for several week straight at a time raising baby chicks indoors last spring. It made it through two batches of chicks, so it was on for about 9 or 10 straight weeks total, and it hasn't burned out yet. So it works. Also, I like how this model does put out a little light compared to the ceramic infrared kind (which outputs heat only and zero light) because when raising chicks, you'll notice they like to be able to have a little light so they can see 24/7 in case they get hungry or thirsty in the middle of the night and need to find their way to the feeder. I switched to the ceramic infrared kind one day, and the chicks cried and cried that night for about an hour, so I switched the bulb back to this infrared incandescent one and they calmed back down.

Great Infrared Heat Lamp!
I've had 3 of these lamps. The first, I obtained at a now-defunct Pet shop. Unfortunately, it was defective and burned out in two days. I took it back to the pet shop, and they refused to replace it. They merely offered me a 10% discount on another bulb! (At their price, that was only $1.90. EXPENSIVE bulb!) I contacted Zoo Med, they had me send a copy of the receipt, and the Bar Code from the box, and they sent me a replacement that I have used as a heater for my Cavies (Guinea Pigs) for over two winters. When I increased the size of my herd, I obtained another heat lamp. This time, I ordered it online and paid only about $20.00 FOR THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY! (Bulb, Fixture, and Shipping.) I TRUST Zoo Med. I know that with electrical components there is always the chance of getting defective units. BUT Zoo Med STOOD BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT.These lamps create a warm spot that isn't too hot @ 15" (38.10 Cm) above the floor of the cage. (ALWAYS leave a section of the cage UNLIT by the heat lamp, so the animal can find a cooler spot, to prevent overheating.) This lamp can be used for reptiles, birds, Guineas, rabbits, and many other animals. It is perfect for nocturnal animals, as they are unable to see red light, therefor it will not disrupt their Circadian Rhythm. NOTE: This applies to the RUBY RED lamp, NOT the white infrared lamp.

Keeping things hot.
These work well for 24 hour heat for my leopard gecko's terrarium. It is a small terrarium, 18"x18"x12"(h). Keeps it at around 90 degrees F when the light fixture sits on the top of the terrarium. At night, of course, casts everything in the terrarium with a red glow...but, hey, much cheaper than the local pet stores sell them for!

Works as expected
I have gotten this bulb twice now, once for a bearded dragon and once for an iguana. Both times the bulb was exactly what I expected and worked as intended. I've used them for a couple of months with no problems. I'll be getting all our animals' lights here from now on - it is cheaper and easier than going to the pet store.Update: I paid attention to the lifespan, and it lasted for 5 months, turned on continually (24 hours a day). That adds up to 3600 hours. That's as good as one can ask for.

Overpriced but worked
The only reason I gave 3 stars is due to the price. The bulb works great and has lasted a couple hundred hours. I can get 2 for the same price elsewhere.

All 4 lamps were shattered!
The product itself is good I have purchased these in the past. These all arrived SHATTERED as if they were thrown in the truck when being loaded. No remarks on the bix to inform shipper that the contents are FRAGILE!

this works perfect and it is half the heat of a regular heat lamp. This bulb is smaller too which I like and it's just perfect to add a tiny bit of warmth for the chickens on those extra cold nights. it does give off light "red" light so it did keep my chickens up. I had to switch this one out for a ceramic heat bulb which doesn't emit any light and now the chickens sleep all night. I do like this heat bulb and I would buy again if I needed.

Good for our frogs
Truly nocturnal and not just a painted bulb like some I've ordered.
