Update: APR 2016, Probably got 100 miles on this Hat here in the Hawaii Jungles. I love it more every time I hit a branch, (which is often) it has lots of scars on it now. The elastic strap still functions well but I only use it on the windy ridges of the Koalaus. One thing I really like is the Sweat band which does a really good job of channeling the sweat away from your eyes. Three other Old Guys in my hiking group now have them. We all have knowing smiles on our faces as we gaze with mild contempt on our friends with cloth hats. People are so hard to convince sometimes.. Previous Review: Kept banging my head on low trees while hiking. This beast gives you sun protection and impact protection. I was concerned about air circulation, hiking here in Hawaii, but it's good. Those three holes give you more than you would think and air flows up the side of your head too. In fact, yesterday I was hiking a jungle trail, hit my head several times with no ill effects. My hiking friend hit her head wearing her cloth hat and required three staples to close the gash. Not as heavy as I thought. Does amplify sounds but I'm old and deaf so it actually helps. I feel and look "cool", like "Ramar Of The Jungle". (You would have to be over 70 to remember that show.)

I liked this helmet for its value, sun and decent head protection from protruding tree branches or brushes. The headband is also quite adjustable, so it could pretty much fit anyone’s head!

This hat is not for looks but it keeps your head cooler than most hats when working in hot weather and in keeps head much dryer than regular hats (unless it is a rain hat). It also keeps the sun from coming through. You do have to tighten the ban when it is windy to keep it from blowing off your head. The reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because of the 51/2 inch sweat band underneath the hat needs to be washed or replaced often and I don't see a replacement!! The hat looks like it will last a very long time which is much better than the cloth and straw hats. My husband has used it out in the woods cutting firewood and rather use it for gardening and other outdoor work he does than any other hat he has used but said he would never go any where with it on because of the appearance.

This helmet is much much more durable than an actual pith helmet. Size is fully adjustable. Helmet is lightweight and comfortable. Very nice helmet.

Best 4 season (dash board, sun, rain, snow, wind, construction, gardening, bailing water, as a head pillow) hat ever! I have owned most every hat style and material, and they all fall short of this type for longevity and function. Inadequate description by seller. Matt plastic finish. Easy clean with scrub brush. Plastic adjustable suspension (overlapping plastic straps, choose plastic pins into holes to adjust), one size fits all. Sits much lower on head and has wider rim for much more sun protection than a hard hat. Hard hat suspensions are better, with adjustment knob, but the hard hats cannot be worn to the office. This is stylish enough to wear for office arrival and departure. Owned a similar plastic pith hat for about 10 years, now this one. Nothing broke except the elastic chin strap degraded to unusable in a year or 2. All other hats fade sitting in the car 365 days a year, but my prior of this in tan did not. Bought a fabric pith, and that was sweat stained and no longer presentable in one day. Top quality leather and wool felt fade and stain and shrink and quickly become unpresentable also.
