Best center for the money
Forget small centers, this is what you want. With a powered subwoofer, and a full-size driver for mid and high this is an amazing center. Pair this with DT mains and you’ll rival any movie theater in quality.I replaced a Bose cube setup and can’t believe how much better this sounds. I used to have closed captioning on because I kept misunderstanding Dialog. Since I got this I have left them off. This is the best sounding center I have ever heard.You won’t regret this purchase. A center with full range and powered sub makes the best sounding audio for movies, and even sounds amazing for music.You can use a separate subwoofer input, but it’s not recommended. Set receiver to “full size” center, if it’s set small the receiver cuts out the bass and the powered sub won’t turn on. I know from experience, I almost exchanged my speaker. This seller was quick to reply and offered a rapid exchange for a new one, but I figured this out on my own, and haven’t looked back since.

using with JBL 290 L/R
For almost two years, I've had this hooked up in our 5.2, now a 5.2.2 Home Theatre, pushed by a Denon x1500h. I probably sweated the center channel choice more than any other, while putting together a HT (simultaneously upgrading the 2.1 downstairs).Like most of us, I was budget constrained, so much of all the components were bought on sale, including the old series JBL 290 towers. I tried not to get too caught up in debates about "you have to use the same brand for L/C/R front stage. I knew the limits of my ears and the zealousness of internet audiophiles. However, from some experience, I figured I should stay close in tonal balance (of course we know the avr will help out there, too). I didn't like the offerings from JBL for CC - nothing seemed to be ready to stand up to the JBL 290s. I sit 7' from a 75" screen so the L/R speakers are relatively wide; I wanted the mid bass fill, some baratone if you will, coming in the center.The DefTech CS-9060 fills that bill perfectly. It takes the center and fills the screen. I use the 8" built-in "sub" just hooked to speaker wire, as we also have a pair of 15" active subs to handle the low end. The tonal control is a nice feature. I set it on a stand underneath the tv, slightly tilted upward. For music, I'm a traditionalist, so it's shut off. For TV it's the dominate player. Vocal are easily heard, not buried under ambient noise or action sequences. It takes charge as necessary and plays nice with the JBL 290s in front, JBL CS55s in back, and some Yamaha 6490 behemoths hanging from the ceiling.Caveat: I bought this for $503 on sale here. I am not a loyalist (although I was happy to see JBL on sale too because experience) to any brand. I don't think that skews the rating because it's relative. My subs are $200 each... not as awesome as the one svs NSD12PB downstairs (paid only $499).. but in a H/T when you can get 2 for $400 you get 2 to fill the dips and smooth the bumps. In my 14x17x8 room, it's plenty of boom and vibration for the movie nights.

Outstanding Center Speaker!
I was using a Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000 speaker until I purchased the 9060, along with DT Promonitor 1000 fronts, ProMonitor 800 surround, and SuperCube 2000 subwoofer. Although the ProCenter 1000 has a sweet and clear sound, I needed a more robust center for my moderately large family room. (the other speakers have been perfect for my needs; DT speakers output a surprisingly full sound for their size, and my wife appreciates their attractive and relatively small footprint.) Dialogue with the 9060 has been the best I have experienced, with no need for manual tweaking of the receiver's equalizer as I have needed to do in the past. And adds a richness to music. I have increased volume of the 9060 for movies, and decreased it for music, as expected with any center. My Denon receiver has preselects, so one button press will call all the settings up for each listening purpose. Glad I went with the subwoofer in the 9060, even with my SuperCube -- the two subs together even out the low bass, for a very smooth and pleasing result. I have had to fine tune the volume of both subs to match, and turn down their total volume, as expected to two subs. Can't be happier with this choice!

I cannot be happier with the sound
Currently 60% through my Surround system upgrade. I am slowly replacing all my speakers with Def Techs. Fronts and centers done this year. Next will be the SR9080s for total tonal balance front and back. The CS9060 is a 100% improvement from the cheap Infinity Entra One series. I cannot be happier with the sound. The built in Sub is actually quite subtle. The Sub gives the dialogue a deeper richer sound. The voices and dialogue seem more natural. I am sure all competitive brands of Centers at this price range will sound just as good. What I wanted was tonal balance which can easily be found with same branded speakers. The look and design is top notch. This is just one sexy speaker in my opinion. Love the led " D " logo in the front.

Sound clarity is not so good as expected.
I bought CS-9060 as a matching center channel for my 5.1ch system with Definitive Mythos ST-Ls and Polk Lsi-15s as front and surround speakers. However, the mid to high sound of CS-9060 didn't match as expected. The mid and high of Mythos ST-l has much more clarity and air than CS-9060. They are in different leagues. I felt CS-9060's mid and high was a little bit muddy when listening to voice, even though I tried to improve it by adjusting low frequency volume. Overall sound quality may be OK in this price range, but only three stars at most.

Definitive Technology is a great co.
Sound quality is as expected from Definitive Technology. Only a couple of weeks use, but blows my DT ProCenter 100 away.The adjustable volume for the built in sub is a plus. The depth that it provides is awesome. Glad I caught it on sale.
