Save the box!
I love this soft closing QUIET toilet seat. When I pulled it out of the box I couldn't find any instructions or manual and thought. "Ok, no big deal", thinking it would be a simple installation. So, I proceeded to do the install only to discover the assembled toilet seat sat crooked on the toilet. To be honest I was a bit perplexed. What was I missing? Why was it crooked? Why didn't it fit the shape of my toilet bowl?At that point, I thought I would have to return the seat but to troubleshoot it, I decided to move the seat to another bathroom/toilet to see if that would make any difference. However, after removing the seat entirely, I NOTICED the "+" symbol on the black hinge mounts (part no1086972) and wondered what they meant.I then attempted a second installation, carefully dissecting all the parts, esp the mounts, ensuring I proceeded with an identical symmetrical installation and suddenly the toilet seat sat perfectly on the toilet. After all that, I found the INSTRUCTIONS on the back of the box and actually read something that referenced the hinge mounts wherein it spoke of a scalable alternate installation lengths. In other words PLACING the "+" SYMBOL toward either the back or the front will produce a shorter and or longer installation and if you accidentally install them in opposite directions you will have a crooked seat that is loose. Given this feature is NOT noted in the highlighted features list I would guess some people might have installed their toilet seats incorrectly. It's hard to believe with only 7 pieces that seem so basic and straightforward that it could be so complicated. This should have been a 10 min install but took much longer because I was baffled. It would be helpful if Kohler would make those "+" plus symbols in red or yellow so one is prompted to take notice of them.

doesn't fit my toilet... but easy to fix!
so I have a round Kohler toilet. Just bought the round slow close Kohler toilet seat .... only problem the new seat isn't actually round. its slightly too narrow by about 1/2" on either side, so the seat doesn't fit all the way to the edge of the toilet. If you have this same problem, and also have a Kohler toilet (and hopeful are replacing a Kohler toilet seat) its super easy to fix. all Kohler seats have the same manufactured fitting/openings that connect the seat and the lid, the only difference is the internal hinge parts, which you can swap out with your old non slow close hinge parts. To do this, remove your old toilet seat, flip it over and pop off the long rectangular hinge cover (a flat head screw driver works well, once the cover is off you will see the two cylinder hinges inside. depending on your model they might have tiny caps cover on them which you will need to pop off. once the caps are removed use a needle nose pliers to gently pull one of the cylinders out. once clear of the seat/lid connection, pull on the other cylinder out, if it sticks unfold the seat/lid and lightly wiggle back and forth until it come apart. once apart do the same thing to the new slow close seat. then put the new hinges in the old seat (do the same steps above in reverse) then attach the old seat with the new hinges to you toilet and like magic you will have a perfectly fitting seat with slow close hinges! hope this helps.

Easy cleaning
I wanted a toilet seat with quick release because I remove the seat regularly for cleaning. This seat is perfect for that purpose and fits the toilet well. The seat I replaced fully covered the entire toilet bowl. This one shows a bit of the bowl around the edges (less than 1/4 inch) when the seat when closed, if that is important to you. I am using this on a Kohler toilet that looks exactly like the one on the Amazon website for this seat. It does not shift when sitting on it. Both the seat and the cover are soft close. I mention this because I have another Kohler seat where only the cover is soft close, which seems like either a design flaw or it’s simply broken.

SOO much better than the cheap knockoff
This new seat is more solid and heavy than the inexpensive knockoff it replaced. This Kohler product is shaped to offer greater comfortable and a more visually appealing silhouette when closed. The lid closes softly, and the rubber feet keep the ring from sliding around. This is a great purchase. Installation took 3 minutes and most of that was looking for a screw driver!

So disappointed
I read all the reviews. I wanted to make sure I could sit on the toilet lid as it is the place I put my shoes on (I know, I could go to the couch, but the toilet is closest to the closet where I keep my shoes). After my husband installed the new seat, I went to sit on it and it made cracking noises like it was seriously going to crack so I didn't put my whole weight on it (and I am not a heavy person). I will never be able to sit on the lid and would never have purchased this seat if I knew how flimsy the lid actually was. My other toilet seat lid is plastic but it is very sturdy. My husband sits on the lid when he puts his contacts on. I tried to purchase that seat/lid again, but our purchase was made too long ago and they no longer carry that exact model. So, if you are hoping to sit on this lid and not feel like you are going to crack it, this one is not for you. I wish I could return it.
