My new favorite appliance
I love this machine so much that I'm encouraging all of my friends to buy one. I don't enjoy baking but this thing makes creating pies so easy. It's important to "season" the machine before using it. I have never needed to oil it but I have only used the pre made, refrigerated pie dough. There is no on/off switch so as soon as it's plugged in the pie maker begins to heat up. A light turns on when it's ready, so easy. So far I've made pies with the following ingredients: beef and chicken stew with veggies, meatballs and sausages with sauce, mozzarella and ricotta, taco and enchilada fillings and all sorts of fruit pies. I have also made scrabbled eggs with bacon, sausage, ham and different cheeses and veggies. Clean up couldn't be easier. After use I simply wipe the machine out when it's cool enough. The best thing about this appliance is turning leftovers into a fun and easy meal. Oh, and the kids love it too!

Great Product
Great device. it works like a gem. A couple of helpful hints. You can use this device for Pie Crusts only if you want to do a pie such as a Lemon Meringue or Key Lime. Make sure you prick the crust with a fork just like baking in a regular oven and also add pie weights to the bottom so it doesn't puff up. I use pinto beans when I do this. Also, the tops sometimes do not brown like I would like them to so I use an egg wash on the top of my pies so they turn nice and golden brown. Otherwise, this is a fantastic device. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this product.

Completely GROSS!
At first, I was simply going to blame myself, but then I went to retrace my steps. I did my search for a Breville Pie Maker in Appliances via Amazon. The first hit listed one and said "Buy new" for $59.95! Sweet! I've never seen it so cheap, so I bought it right then!I received a pie maker in a box saying refurbished. I immediately looked at the advertisement on Amazon and read the product information. The product description was for a SmartOven, not a pie maker. Sighing heavily, I opened the box thinking I could live with refurbished. This pie maker looks as if it has spent a year serving on a Carnivale Food Truck. It had blueberries still glued to it! YUCK! MR and JB cleaned and inspected it, respectively. I advise the refurbishing company to send them back for better training. This pie maker goes back the moment that the UPS truck arrives. Heck, I may just have to chase one down tonight to ease my disappointment. Very unhappy with the product.

Unique gift, FUN for Mom!
This personal pie maker from Breville is top of the line - quality shows! I used it to make home made apple pies and they were delicious! It only takes about 5-8 minutes to bake, but you do still have the preparation time (slicing apples, making pie crust). Using puff pastry is easy, and you can make savory pies (like steak and veggie, or chicken pot pies) quickly. It's a dream!! I LOVE it.

Not very happy about my pies
Description for the pie maker was "new". I ordered one for myself and one as a Christmas present. When they arrived, the boxes were marked "factory refurbished". My pie maker only bakes 2 pies correctly. The other 2 always come out under cooked. I'm hoping the one I purchased as a present works better.

Great individual pie maker
I love this little pie maker but to get the full use out of this I think you need to open your mind to what a pie is. The other reviewer is correct, it can be hard to get a nice brown on a top crust, If you are making a double crusted fruit pie you need to over fill to create a mound. I find it's easier to just not worry about the top crust and put a glaze over it once it's cooled. My husband actually likes it better that way. My favorite thing to make is shepherd's pie. I use a bottom crust, meat filling, mashed potatoes and I even put some cheese on top. The second favorite is deep dish pizza, which people love. You do have to play with it a bit to get the hang of it but isn't that true for all new things? Probably the worst thing about this, I can be in the kitchen all morning making all kinds of pies and a hurricane of men come through and wipe me out in seconds. :(When it's just the two of us I make 4 pies for dinner, I eat one and my husband may eat 2, which leaves one for me as a snack the next day. My husband has also taken these to work the next day and while the pie isn't hot, if wrapped up it will stay warm in the middle and the crust won't be soggy. How great is that you can make your own hot pockets wit the fillings you want.I tried using the puff pastry once, I'm not a big fan of it but it did make the pies look pretty. I didn't have a problem with the tops not cooking all the way through, it was just more pastry than i wanted. I make more savory pies than anything, the pies also freeze well for a quick mid-week meal. I just don't feel like cooking after a long day of work. If I don't have pre-made pies whipping up a few is pretty easy and quick. I just look to see what leftovers I have, and you can use just about anything, and I always have some pre-made pie dough. Just roll out the dough, cut with provided pie cutters, drop in dough, drop in filling, drop top crust if desired, close lid, wait 8 minutes and dinner is ready.
