Q: Can i apply a wood conditoner prior to applying the osmo polyx-oil?

Applying a wood conditioner is not necessary, as Polyx-Oil is essentially a sealer and top coat in one. Any unevenness from the first coat will improve with the 2nd or 3rd coat.

Q: What is the odor of this stuff? When applying/ drying and long term?

This is both low voc and low odor when applying. We have used this on our Doug-fir doors and interior windows and on a wood countertop. First coat on bare wood dries in a 3 or 4 hours. A second or third coat should be left overnight. I have used OSMO products for interior, exterior vertical, and a OSMO deck UV stain. Does not smell long-term, off-gas, or yellow or flake like polyurethane. Worth the extra $s.

Q: Has anyone use this for a kitchen countertop? If so, how has it held up?

I have used it on a breakfast bar. It has held up wonderfully. Just use the osmo cleaner and dress it with the osmo restoration wax every few months. I have 2 kids and 3 dogs and used it on white oak flooring. Still looks good after 4 years.

Hi, this product 3054 Polyx-Oil contains 275g/l. If you are looking for a zero-voc product we recommend looking at 5125 Polyx Pure which will meet those critera.
