Reliable, soft, and our elderly cat’s favorite bed at the very end
After our 17 year old cat began losing more weight and wanting to crawl under the covers all the time to stay warm, I started researching heated beds for him. This was the second bed we bought, after the first one (with more complicated controls and features) frequently began to turn off. With that other bed, I would know when it broke because our kitty would sit up and meow until we turned it off and back on again, trying to fix it.The K&H heated bed, however, was reliable and never stopped working. It was also nicely cushioned and I think it helped his aching joints. It took him a few days to adjust to the differences between the first bed and the K&H, but this is clearly his favorite. I can say that without any doubt because our cat is dying—we are putting him to sleep tomorrow—and both the K&H bed and the first one we bought are plugged in, side by side, for him to sleep on.I had to wash the cover for the K&H today after he got sick all over it. We temporarily brought out the old, less reliable bed, and he slept on that, but as soon as the K&H was clean again, and he had a choice over which one to spend his last night sleeping on, he didn’t hesitate. He is sleeping soundly now…he seems peaceful. I hope he will enjoy one last good night’s sleep as we shower him with love and say our goodbyes.I had actually just bought a second one of these beds as a backup (it was that important to him and us), and it was delivered two days ago. I guess we will be returning that one, which is unopened…I don’t write reviews as often as I should, but I felt it was necessary tonight. Thank you to K&H for bringing our cat comfort in his final moments. You made a good product, it brought happiness to our sweet old boy, and I like to think that it is making this last night just a little bit more bearable for all of us.

The absolute best quality heat pads and beds for cats
I have been doing cat rescue for 20 years, president of a 501c3 animal rescue group and cannot say enough good things about the quality and durability of K&H products.Never got one for free from the company but I wouldn't buy any other brand, they last and last and last.

Our cats love their heated beds!
Review of K&H Pet Products Thermo-Kitty Mat Heated Pet Bed Mocha 12.5 X 25 InchesOur cats love their K&H Pet Products Thermo-Kitty Mat Heated Pet Beds. They always have a warm place if they feel cold.If no cat is on the bed, it feels slightly warm. When a cat lays on the bed, the bed warms slightly more but never dangerously hot for a cat.The heating element inside the bed cover is smaller than the cover so don’t be surprised. Our cats find it plenty warm and have never complained. This bed is designed for indoor use. Of course, DO NOT USE this bed with a sick or invalid cat who cannot get off the bed on their own. DO NOT USE a human heating pad for animals- they get dangerously hot for animals. Some reviews say the bed is not “ON” until a pet is on the bed but this is not accurate. According to the K&H website, “The surface of the bed will be about 15°F above ambient air temperature until the pet lies on the bed. Then it will warm to about 102°F, which is the natural body temperature of dogs and cats.”Cost to operate is very low since this model draws 6 watts per hour. We live where the electricity is expensive at $0.33 per kilowatt (most of the U.S. pays half this or less) so it costs us about $1.50 per month per heated bed if it is plugged in the whole month. For most people the cost would probably be $0.75 per month, perhaps less. You can do your own calculations.Great for senior cats or skinny cats. However, the K&H website says,“Important Safeguards:• Consult your veterinarian before use with young puppies/kittens, convalescent pets, during surgery/surgery recovery, or any animal that cannot voluntarily remove themselves from the heated pad. K&H recommends using ONLY the Deluxe Lectro-Kennel Heated Pad for these animals as this pad has an adjustable thermostat.• Do not place pad in confined area where the pet does not have the ability to remove themselves from the pad. Always allow your pet enough space to be able choose if they want to rest on the pad or off the pad.”OTHER OPTIONSOver the years we have purchased about seven K&H versions of heated pet beds and none have failed. One version is a round “basket” in which the cats love to curl up because it has sides (comes in two sizes- get the large for an average size cat). Some are just the heating element and cord to be placed in your own cover (pets should not lay on the element without a cover). The heated beds like the Thermo-Kitty Mat Heated Pet Bed are our go-to, no-brainer choice- plug it in and the cats figure out how they want to lay on it.We also have tried a round disc (a non-K&H product) that is warmed in a microwave and is warm at first but the heat dissipates through the night leaving the disc less warm by morning; and then you have to heat the disc again. The advantage of the disc is that no electricity is needed near the bed and there is no electrical hazard for the pet. The K&H heated beds provide constant, even heat throughout the day and night. The disc is also a hard, rock-like lump in the bed. If you place padding around the disc, the heat is blocked, keeping the disc warm but not the pet.We have also tried non-electrical warming pads that have a heat reflective layer (that makes a crinkly noise) to reflect the pet’s body heat. They work to a certain extent but not like an electrically heated bed. The advantage of the reflective pad is that no electricity is needed near the bed and there is no electrical hazard for the pet.THE BOTTOM LINEOur cats love their heated beds!

Small Heating Area
I have a cat that has seen a few warming pads in her 12 year life. Here is another one for her pleasure. This one peaked my interest because it is narrow enough to rest on the window shelf without excess blanket hanging over. However, the foam smell that surrounds the heating pad was found to be malodorous to her and she would not use the pad.I disassembled the pad and discovered the heating pad portion is half the width of the cover. The warming pad cover was washed and returned to the shelf with the heating part inside and now she will lay on it to look out of the window.I choose to keep this pad because the kinks have been worked out and, better, I do not have to monitor a temp gauge to know its working.
