Darkening Solution Used to antique or darken brass, copper, bronze, or tin. Easy to apply and causes no dimensional change. Gradual color change lets you control the color. Please Note: Solution will not work on lacquered, brass plated, or nickel plated surfaces. To use it, you must have metal with no clear coating on it. Acetone or stripper will remove the coating. Rub the piece down with #0000 Steel wool, and clean it well with paper towels and acetone making sure you do not touch it with your oily fingers. You can then brush on the darkening solution or soak the parts in it until they turn black in color. They are then rinsed with water, and color adjusted with some dry #0000 steel wool rubbing the black off until you get the look you want.

Before and after using product
I used vinegar on faucet and it ruined the finish. I am very pleased that multiple applications of product over a week has improved the finish alot. Not 100% but at least 80%. I’m continuing to apply to see if I get even more darkening.👍🏽👍🏽

This product did not work sad to say…did absolutely nothing.

Be sure to buy enough
The directions call for imersion so a small bottle won't work for anything large. I needed it for a statue, so I applied it repetitively with a brush. I then rinsed it with a bit of baking soda and polished it with pure bees wax. Bingo

Works! Makes Brass look darkened
I’m just trying it in small samples but it does make brass darker within the 24 hours.

Worked perfectly after a little prep
Worked exactly as advertised to get our bright gold door hinges to match our antique brass door knobs! I tried it once with no prep and no results. I then tried a second time using rubbing alcohol on the hinges to remove the gloss, then steel wool to remove the outer plating. I put back in the solution and that worked! They look great.

Didn’t work as advertised
I used this product to darken some brass pieces I was using on a model. The product worked as expected, but the darkening came off when I tried to remove it from the solution. Even after soaking it in water per instructions, the powder kept coming off.
