Just what I needed
During the too many years of moving around my A.L.I.C.E. Pack Frame vanished. I needed a new one for an upcoming camping trip. The pack arrived early and in good condition. Attaching it to the pack was no problem. The pack with frame and new straps was more than comfortable during a ten mile hike in high temperatures and humidity. It made it easy to carry the 45 pounds of gear and water in the pack with almost no discomfort. (The new design straps are a lot better in my opinion than the old design straight straps.)The only problm I have with the frame is under a moderately heavy load it seems to squeak at the top left. Then again every other pack frame I have ever used squeaked somewhere. All in all this was just what I needed and I would recomend it to others.

Better to look for surplus
I bought this to replace my old one that I lost in a move and Ill tell yah what, its nothing like my old frame. The shoulder straps are junk and the waist belt is a joke. Frame itself is alright, but i probably could have made one for less.

Does the trick - but there's one problem: a hidden clip.
It’s a fine frame. But it has one attribute I have been unable to figure out. Please see picture.Note the plastic prong. It’s tucked under the quick release snap. How do you access this once the metal snaps are engaged? It’s hard for me to see how one could clip anything to it while it lays under the shoulder strap.I don’t know whether this is a design flaw – or an attribute I am not familiar with. I wore my ruck in the 70’s and again in the 90’s when I was assigned to Infantry units. My son took it to Iraq. He wore the original frame out.Jay has been overseas and came home on business this month. First time for him to have a chance to see this - and he’s not familiar with it, either. This is no big deal. Except that I contacted ArmyNavy.com customer service to ask them about this and interacted with a CS rep. named Kevin. Instead of answering my question, he deferred this to Amazon because the order was more that 5 months old. I am not asking for a refund. If this is a flaw, then maybe ArmyNavy can send me a replacement shoulder strap. But I don’t care about that. I can cut it off.My only concern is that the company is made aware of this potential issue. Or, better the company can explain how to use the clip. But, to me, something is a little goofy. But then Kevin provided lousy CS. That changed the discussion from the clip to his behavior. He gets a sad-face in my book. I request Amazon discuss this with their vendor. Thank you.

Great Camping Item
Bought this to use with my Alice Pack. I found that this is an excellent combo if you like camping and hiking. Not to heavy so it doesn't really add to weight. Some say it does but my money is that they weight they talk about is added by them. This take a little bit of work to fit an Alice Pack to the frame but there are a few youtube videos that show you how to connect the pack to the frame in record time. The other nice feature is, being an external frame, I can add items to side of frame to allow hands free operation. I can have a smaller sized axe attached to the side part of the frame with little interference with my hiking.

Frame is fine - Straps are uncomfortable
The frame is sturdy and works well. The straps included are terrible. There is almost no padding in the shoulder straps or kidney pad.For the price, I was expecting something much better. Now I have to buy supplemental pads if I want to be comfortable wearing this.I also received a black frame instead of the one pictured.Very disappointed in my purchase.

Perfect for the Haslab Proton Pack
I bought this before my Haslab Proton Pack shipped since I knew there would be high demand once they began to roll out. I attached it with ease and everything fits great. Highly recommend for my fellow busters out there.

Pretty good frame...
I purchased this for a friend, who ended up buying a whole new pack (with internal frame) - I'm left with an extra frame I won't use. I emailed the seller and no response, though communication was through the Thanksgiving holiday. I'm hoping I can get a refund. I already own an ALICE pack with frame and like it a lot. This frame comes clearly used since it had scrape marks going down the metal frame, but it doesn't impede on what it's supposed to do - be sturdy and light on the back when you're hauling a bag full of gear. This also comes with a plastic "US" canteen and strap (but there's nothing that states the canteen is BPA-free)...in fact, there's no documentation whatsoever - just be aware. While hiking backpacks have become more "hi-tech" and even more ergonomic, the quality of stitching and the use of plastic zippers tend to dampen the complete enjoyment for hikers like me. I'll probably end up purchasing a waterproof camping backpack in the near future (albeit grudgingly) but these metal frames will last you forever.
