Kohler K-GP1037021-CP Universal Pop-Up Stopper with Plastic Stem Polished Chrome

It fit our Kohler sink properly--pay very close attention to the helpful review from LateNite tech.It did take some adjusting of the shaft length and patience in lining up the rod with the hole in the shaft. It seals the drain as intended. I would not recommend removing it to clean.

If you're like me, you came here looking for a replacement Kohler pop-up stopper and found two nearly identical listings (1036994 and 1037021). And per the listing pics you might think the only difference is the 1037021 has a plain chrome top piece vs. the 1036994 which as the word 'Kohler' across it. Well, I (like I assume many buyers) chose the wrong one, so I ended up having to buy both of them to finally get the right one for my need.The only difference between the two is in the gray finned piece that slides into the drain opening. The 1037021 is physically larger fitting a drain opening diameter of approximately 1+1/4" while the 1036994's finned piece fits a drain opening of approx 1+1/8". Despite the listing picture differences, the other two pieces in the kit (the chrome top piece w/rubber gasket and the plastic screw) are identical between the two kits. Both of mine had the 'Kohler" name etched in the surface of the chrome top.To help you decide which one you needed, I took a pic (attached) showing the two side-by-side. If you have the original finned piece, simple measure across the edges of any 2 fins. The small one (1036994) measures about 1", while the larger one (1037021) measures about 1+1/8". Note that those measurements are not the diameter of the piece, but are much easier to quickly measure.Now that I've received the correct kit, all is good. In my case I didn't need the top chrome piece (my drain is polished brass). I just needed the finned piece and the plastic screw and moved the original polished brass top over to the new pieces. (Both of my OEM pieces were metal and had disintegrated over 30 years). Amazingly these repair pieces are still available after 30 years and fit perfectly.

I purchased the Kohler sink stopper after my husband had done some sink repairs and misplaced the original stopper. In reading reviews and doing some research, I have to say I was a little nervous about whether the stopper would fit our sink. I had (and still have) no idea what model number our sink/faucet is, but knew that our previous stopper looked exactly like the stopper pictured in the listing so I took a chance.The stopper fit into our sink perfectly! I had my husband install it (because I know nothing about sinks), I watched him and it looked simple. The whole install took just a few minutes. I'm very happy with this replacement stopper, it's exactly like our original stopper and is made of the same high quality. I can say this for certain, because our original stopped magically showed up about 2 weeks after purchasing and installing the new one.I rely on honest Amazon reviews when making my purchases, as do many others. Worked perfect in my bathroom sinks. Did not need washers.

This is a Kohler replacement part but perhaps due to old nature of the sink, had to trim off by grinding the gray fairly soft plastic fins to a smaller diameter to fit the stop drain tube. Otherwise the O Ring located below the rim of the stopper portion does a great job of sealing and holds water well.

Our Kohler sink stopper gave up the ghost. The little plastic piece in the bottom of the original stopper mechanism broke off and we could not pull the stopper up using the release located on the top of the sink to drain the sink.We were going to call a plumber - you know how expensive that can get, but decided to watch a You-Tube on how to do the repair ourselves. Bought this replacement piece in hopes we could fix it ourselves. The part is reasonably priced.Turns out it was an easy enough fix and my husband completed the task in about 20 minutes (which included removing the original broken piece and replacing with this new one). Works great!

DOES NOT FIT SOME SINKS

The listing uses the word "Universal", this might be correct in some other universe, just not this one. It would not fit my sink; the top of the stopper is too large in diameter. I suspect they mean just the Kohler universe. This Kohler part does appear to be of quality manufacture. Just make sure (Measure) you are ordering a part that will fit! See "Youtube" for lots of videos on how to put these in. It is not hard at all!
