1. Put in the new valve, turned on house water, and had worse tub spigot leakthen before. At some desperate point I thought why not try the 2 original screwsthat mount the valve on to the brass housing. Success.Seems the new screws that come with the valve were not compatible withthe old brass body. This kept them from tightening down all the way.2. Pulling the old valve out was harder than I expected. We have hard waterand maybe that was the reason it was in there solid. I used a lot of patienceand tried to be real careful not to bother the copper pipes in thewall. By the time I had the old valve out it was trashed. Brittle plastic.

Product was exactly the same as the old product that had failing o-rings date stamped 1999. It fixed the dripping shower head and arrived quickly. Very happy will be ordering 3 more to replace the other shower valves before they start leaking too. Hopefully they last 20 years like the originals.

I replaced the old one. There is no dropping now. But the price is a little bit high.

Yeah I read that on another review that said to buy the pressure balancing cartridge too and said, “eh why waste another $20”... Then you have to do the job twice like I just did. Works & fits perfectly and replaces the existing cartridge that was 20 years old.

Our old mixer cap had a slow drip that came out the front where the temp setting meets the brass post. When I removed the old mixer to try cleaning it, upon reinstallation, the main o-ring seal was now bad causing more of a flood when I turned on the shower. The main o-ring looked pretty flattened and worn. Suffice to say, the old mixer cap was now a goner. It was installed originally in 1999... 16 years old.I was very nervous to spend ~$40 for a part I didn't have full confidence would fix the issue, but it did. I ran the tub/shower for a at least 20 minutes and there was now absolutely no more leak from the brass stem or main o-ring. Perfect fix.Just a heads up, the original mixer cap was held in place by a round metal ring rather than the star shaped metal ring included with this part, but the different design still worked out great for me.

Should get this mixer with the match connecter GP500520 (the part connect to the hot and cold water pipes behind the mixer). Replace both the mixer and the connector is the safer way (I think). It looks different from the older Kohler GP77886 model that may be in your shower mixer but it replace it perfectly. You will not need to use all the spare parts that come in the kit. It is an integrated part that replace the older model that need assembling of two spring loaded caps. This part is like a preassembled part that is easier to install.
