For starters
Being somewhat new to rune work and Norse paganism I found this tutorial to be both approachable and educational. It provides a concise explanation of the Elder Futhark runes' meanings and applications without overloading you with details all at once. The background information on the origins and history of runes was what I valued most since it helped me feel more connected to the practice. Additionally there is helpful practical information on how to take readings the significance of mentality and even how to make your own rune set something I had not previously thought about.

Really good introduction to runes and the mythology related to them
This book is a very accessible and complete introduction to the runes. This is in part because of the way in which this book has been structured. Zara first gives you some background information about Norse culture and then goes on to give a very comprehensive summary of the most important myths related to runes. For those unfamiliar with Norse mythology she has also included a short overview of the most important Gods and Goddesses. When I started on my own journey with the runes, I missed this type of structure in the books I turned to, so it was a refreshing surprise to encounter this in Zara's book. What I like about Zara's interpretation of the runes is that it is very apparent that she did her research, but also made an effort to incorporate the meaning that she attributes to them herself. So I believe that this book would make an interesting addition to the bookshelves of even those well versed in runes. What I would have liked to see Zara do more is to actually tie some of the myths into her interpretation of the runes. This would have tied the section on rune lore more neatly together with the section discussing their meanings, which now feels a bit like a standalone section. Having said that, this may have made the explanations less accessible to those new to runes. So this may have been a conscious choice by the author. What I love about Zara's book is that it also comes with a lot of free extra's to help you understand and memorize the runes, which will be really helpful to first timers.Having said that, I believe this book is well worth a read, no matter where you are on your rune journey.

Informative
I dabbled with runes briefly, maybe 30 years ago, so I'm not that up on things anymore. I bought a set of runes for my granddaughter who likes tarot. I read the reviews and this seemed like the perfect book to provide meaningful and insightful knowledge about runes to get her started. I skimmed through it before I gave it to her and found it to be very informative and the last section of the book is a nice reference guide. I think this was the perfect choice.

Good read, easy follow.
I've read a handful of books, some that would indoctrinate you to thin or react to the runes in a specific way as if the energy was stagnant and unmoving. I've read some, such as this one that tells you about the overall Inter play between runes and their use, but also about its openness and flow of energy. ID recommend this book for beginners and everyone in general. If you're like the all father and myself, ill read many texts on one subject because no on source has everything correct and complete.
