works great
had this professionally installed about 6 months ago. So far, I really like it. We switched from an electric tank heater, so it was a lot of effort to install and I would recommend a professional. It would also be nice if there were an app to view and initiate the circulation pump. Only complaint so far is that the "smart circ" doesn't always have hot water at the ready. works 95% of the time, but every once in a while we have to run the hot for a long time to get hot water to the faucet. But overall, very happy. Good quality.

Just be aware
Guess what shoppers - if you are going to buy this unit, be prepared to replace in max 8 - 10 years and to have this wonderful company find every excuse to show that your issue isn’t covered. We had one and failed in 9 years from install. Guess what Rinnai - I’ll pay 4x the price to replace because you decided not to work with us on warranty. Don’t get duped into buying this second rate junk.

Re-circulating function is not what it is thought to be
We replaced our 15-17 y/o Rinnai unit that was still functioning, but the Feds had a 30% tax credit available and not knowing what the EPA was going to do about outlawing gas/propane appliances. Presuming that the new unit would last as long as the last one, at my life expectancy probably it will outlive me. We live in a 3500 sq ft two-story home & full basement, my wife always complained about the time for hot water to get from the basement to upstairs. The Smart-circ seemed it would be a solution. Reality, when you turned on a faucet for hot water, it started out "warm" and had to wait for it to get "hot", when you turned on a faucet for cold water, we got warm water and we had to dump a few gallons down the drain to get ambient "cold water" to get to the faucet. This also means that everytime a commode is flushed, it was pulling "hot water" that the unit was circulating thru the cold water pipes and the unit was turning on to reheat the water. Seemed like a very inefficient system. I turned the Smart-Circ function off. Even though our new system is suppose to have abt 10% higher BTU output, the warming of the water seems to be slower to get to its set temp of 125F - the same setting as our older unit. Perhaps the Smart-Circ system may work properly if it was installed into a house where the hot water pipes are in a closed loop. In an existing house, that would be fairly difficult to retrofit. Considering all factors, I would much rather have a tankless hot water heater than a conventional tank water heater, it is the less costly to operate.

FILTERS
I have a tankless water heater, but there is one filter and not two is this normal? I was watching some YouTube movies and the person said that there are two filters, one for a return water heater, and another one for a bypass valve?Could you help me out with this? We are going to use the bypass valve.

Previous version, no longer available
Around 17 years ago, I bought the previous model that is no longer available, the inter-web shows this as being the latest version of my model. I love it, it has been flawless for al these years. I really enjoy the remote control unit (sold separately), I mounted it right outside of my shower and set the water temperature to 110° F and just turn the valve to full hot. There is no change in shower temperature when somebody flushes the commode, but you can turn the water up to 190° F if you need hot water for laundry or doing dishes. This allows me to adjust the temperature either in the basement or at the upper level. I did install this myself. I would consider it very doable for a more seasoned. DIYer

It’s LOUD!!!
Love the product and the technology. The biggest issue is that it’s loud when the fan turns on. I can hear it on the other side of the house. I called the manufacturer and they suggested mounting the unit on a 3/4” piece of plywood. I paid my plumber extra to come back and take it off the wall. We mounted it on the plywood and put rubber matting on both sides of the plywood hoping to absorb the sound. It didn’t work. We hear the humming noise of the fan throughout the house. Echoes through the walls. Great unit and works perfect. Just have to deal with the sounds.
