Don't know if it was hail or extreme heat but something caused the old control unit to crack and, subsequently, end up nonfunctional. Had ribs prepped for the smoker when I found the broken controller. Was looking for new smokers (reluctantly) before I decided to check for parts. Stumbled on this, had it shipped next day and it was perfect. Instead of hundreds, I spent $30 to fix it and extend it's life. Couple of screws and one plug, really simple swap. Love that this is available

I bought this control to replace the one that was damaged by water from my smoker being out on my deck. I purchased the Masterbuilt cover thinking that it would shield my smoker ant therefore the control panel from the elements. Turns out the cover isn’t much more than a dust cover. That being said, this new replacement controller works great, but LITERALLY 2 days of being outside and the faceplate is beginning to peel off, letting water inside the controller. It seems my options are to keep my smoker inside (not really trying to have my house smell like smoked meat 100% of the time) or remove the controller every time I finish using it and bring it back inside. I’m not knocking the functionality of the item, just not impressed with the durability.
