Worth every penny in the introduction chapter alone!
Preparing to walk into my first experience in managing, and already reading just the intro to this book this morning & I'm imagining a totally different approach on day one when I find my person - and I'm totally EXCITED! Not an approach I had ever thought of, but one I really wish I had experienced on day one myself, so I can't wait to try it out. Even more so, it is changing the way I see how this experience can be so awesome! So glad to have this resource to rely on and feel a lot less intimidated to take on this new challenge! I'll write another review when I'm finished reading, but couldn't wait in case anyone else is feeling how I am with managing... these authors seem to have a very human approach and clearly have your back.

The second time reading Larry’s book it suddenly occurred to me; all the changes he recommends doesn’t cost anything. The only requirement is an adjustment in thinking. And when that occurs, the payoff is profound. It creates a dramatic positive relationship change.I'm sending books to my closest friends.Keith McLeod, Business Centre.net

Engaging and practical tool for managers
This is an engaging and very practical book for managers and other professionals (much of the subject can be applied in your personal life too). The structure of the book with stories, lessons and experiments within chapters makes it easy for applicability of the content. Highly recommended for any professional wanting to make a difference.

A Must Read!
Rarely am I prompted to write a review for a business book, yet I felt compelled to put pen to paper. Finally, Larry Sternberg and Kim Turnage have provided a primer every manager or anyone who aspires to become a manager should read. Run, do not walk to your nearest bookstore and add this to your library. Erudite without being pedantic and practical without being unattainable, this nuts and bolts approach takes management down the road less traveled. Instead of honing skills to discipline and demean or rule with an iron fist they discuss those things which truly improve performance and increase job satisfaction. With an effective format of lessons, stories and exercises which, if applied, will help anyone engage, retain and develop their people; they take you to a place a classroom cannot. The steps are instructive but certainly not easy. Learning how important it is to apologize, forgive, and make people feel significant is not the traditional paradigm in my experience. The book is easy to read and understand. I discovered afterwards I have notes and highlights on almost every page. I wish this book would have been available when I first became a manager. I would have avoided many of the slings and arrows I encountered.
