Low-e Detector does NOT detect low-e coatings
This CRLaurence low-e detector arrived promptly and was reasonably priced, compared to other "conductive coatings detectors." However, it DOES NOT WORK. When I touch the two metal contacts to a metal surface, the red light comes on, so there is some part of it that functions. When I touch them to glass that has a conductive low-e coating, the light never comes one. We tried dozens of windows and glass surfaces that we know have a low-e coating, even pressing hard and scratching the glass with the metal contacts, but the light NEVER comes on. We tried new batteries--no change. We tried hundreds of windows for both residential and commercial buildings, and never got a single positive indication, so this product is total and complete rip-off. DO NOT BUY. Maybe I just had a lemon, but if you buy this then test it as soon as it arrives so you can have time to return it if necessary.EDIT: DK Hardware Supply agreed to refund my money, but I was still out the shipping both ways.
