Hozelock 2490R8000 Auto Reel hose box with 20 m hose, assorted colors

I bought this to replace the same model hose box, which had lasted more than a decade. Wonderful, easy to use hose - the auto-rell improves the quality of my gardening life!

After much deliberation and comparison of similar products, I decided to take the plunge and order this auto hose reel. I managed for years with a typical hose reel held on an old manual wind up reel, which I always managed to get tangled, coupled with a lot of frustration. It invariably ended up leaking at the joints due to using various manufacturers fittings which were all slightly different, allowing the leakage. I had promised myself for some time that I would purchase a complete hose reel, with all fittings manufactured by one company. After checking the reviews I decided on the Hozelock 2490 20m version, which suited our needs and was particularly good value. It was easy to install and works like a dream. When pulling it out, simply wait for the third click on each revolution and it will be held out by the ratchet at that point. When wishing to rewind, simply gently pull out a little to release the ratchet and it will rewind all the way home.One great thing about this hose reel is that there are no leaks. Looks good on the wall and can be swivelled through 180 degrees allowing you to withdraw in the desired direction. My only negative comment is that the supplied tap fitting is plastic and benefits from upgrading to the metal version, which works much better and should last a lot longer. Well worth the few extra pounds. I also would like to have seen Hozelock upgrade the adjustable hose head, as the supplied version is not suitable for watering delicate plants. I upgraded to a better Hozelock head for less than ten pounds which works great.Overall this product is well worth the money and in typical Amazon style, was delivered free and before the scheduled time, so I am one very satisfied customer.

Excellent product and i really don't know why i waited for so long messing around reeling in the old hose pipe.My reasons for buying was the fact i would rather fill several watering cans than mess around unravelling and winding back up the old hose which was a stand manual floor standing reel.The item came full assembled and required just screwing to the wall and connecting to the tap via supplied hose. It also features a lockable pin so that it can be locked to the wall, but then easily removed during the winter months.I have found the product to be very durable so far but did begin to leak from the supplied plastic click ends so i replaced them with the professional metal variant and have been very impressed, although this was at a cost to myself.The click system is very simple to use as you just pull out and stop when you reach your required length at the next click. To retract you just pull it past the clicks and it will start to retract and wrap up nicely.I have not used my watering can since!

Very easy to install (4 x 7mm masonry drill holes required, you need your own drill bit). Other than that it comes with everything you need, including the connector section to your tap.The side panel which covers the short hose section to the tap is the only let down with this product- it very easily falls off, and the more often it does it, the less securely it seems to click into place. It doesn’t actually affect the function of you remove this cover, it just doesn’t look as neat.Otherwise, it works well, the hose stays out while you’re using it, and it recoils back into the drum nicely without seeming to get stuck much.Comes with a basic adjustable nozzle for a jet or spray depending how much you turn it.

Great unit, I am really pleased with it. On the pack was an offer for a free 3 year extension to the 2 year guarantee so I have peace of mind and can return it if it fails within 5 years plus a 15 year guarantee on the actual hose.Last year I suffered 6 soakings while using the newish expandable hoses that hit the market. They were good to use but explode with a bang and a soaking very quickly. I got 6 soakings last summer because I cut the expandable hose back to the most recent exploded hole and refitted. The incredible expanding hose soon became the disappointing shrinking hose.I dumped my 2 expandable hoses this year and replaced 1 of them with this. It has only had a light trial but it's initial performance has delighted me.The screws supplied to fit it to the wall are suitable for the weight carried even if the hose is fully retracted and filled with water, some reviews advised uprating them but they are perfectly fine as long as you use 7mm bit to drill the holes.I loved the fitting at the hose end you receive that allows you to change "guns" without turning the water off as it shuts off itself as soon as you remove a "gun". It seems to only work with hozelock "guns" though. I have already purchased a car cleaning brush and the new twist "gun" to spoil myselfGreat product and a reassuring guarantee.

This was a replacement for an identical Hozelock Auto Reel, which had given us 10 great years of hard gardening use. We only replaced it as the unit had a plastic part leaking, and we wanted a new unit to start afresh. This is an amazingly EASY hose, as the Auto reel rolls the hose right back into the unit with a spring action. You can lock the hose at any length, as you hear a click when you pull it out, and at that point it has locked and will hold. To reel it back in, you just give it a slight pull and the pull reel action begins. You simply walk it back to the wall unit, which far easier than hand rolling an entire hose back into! The wall bracket is exactly the same as the original one we bought 10 years ago, so fitting was easy. We simply lifted old unit off of the wall bracket, and threaded this new unit on in its place. The new Hozelock is a smart, modern grey colour (a vast improvement on the faded green one it replaced!) and performs brilliantly. If you are buying this as a new unit, fitting the bracket onto a wall is straightforward, and good instructions are included, as well as screws and plugs.
