I can’t see a reason why you couldn’t. My combo boiler doesn’t get hot to the touch so it should affect the shelves, but I definitely wouldn’t place the close to a heat source.

Q: Can you assemble it without all the shelves? Say just two?

You can build it as high as you wish,but you must put a shelf in at each stage, Isuggest if you only want a 2 shelf system then buy that and not a 3.
