Also used it to make my first guacamole from scratch - Amazing and tasted better than the shop's own version
My Indian cooking has vastly improved since we got this for the kitchen. Also used it to make my first guacamole from scratch - Amazing and tasted better than the shop's own version. This product is solid and will last me for the rest of my life

Its heavy!!
Bought this Pestle and Mortar to replace several little ceramic ones which we had aquired over the years and unless you were grinding a couple of cloves or a teaspoon of cumin seeds were pretty useless. This one is the real thing. It will happily take handfulls of spices , dried chillis, garlic etc and reduce them to a fine paste or powder. Probably not as fine as an electric spice mill but far more fun and far more authentic. It is big, it is robust, it is rough and it is heavy. All the things it should be. Just dont drop it on your foot!!

Big and beautiful !
A really lovely item that I’m so pleased I selected from a fairly crowded market. If you want a large, heavy mortar and pestle with plenty of room for grinding pesto or spices that also looks beautiful too, then look no further.

Granite? Really? Hmmmmm....
This is, as described, a large, heavy pestle and mortar. As a decorative piece in a kitchen, it's fine, but that's as far as it goes. My problem is with the statement that it's granite. I'm no geologist, but my experience of walking over granite mountains tells me that it's a very hard rock. The product I received isn't that hard. It doesn't even have the appearance of granite; instead, it looks more like some sort of agglomerate containing granite powder or small chips of rock and some sort of binding agent. The result, while OK visually, is rubbish when it comes to grinding spices or other foods. The problem is that the ground food ends up containing some of the "granite". To confirm this, I put a teaspoon of water in the bowl and made the usual grinding action with the pestle. After no time at all the teaspoon of water turned sludge-grey and had a gritty texture.Fine (if a bit expensive) as a kitchen decoration, but I won't be grinding any more food in mine.

Beautiful quality, extremely heavy pestle and mortar
Beautiful quality, extremely heavy pestle and mortar. I can't believe how cheap it was for what it is. Grinds up my herbs and spices in an instant. I would say, that you need to be pretty strong to lug this about the kitchen. It is so heavy. Take care when washing, as if you drop it, it will break anything.
