Awesome!
Bought these for air travel and for use while on a river boat for two weeks in Brazil. They work great! I even used them last week when I got home while mowing the lawn, and I had a difficult time being able to tell if the mower was still running at a couple points. Impressive! The sound quality is wonderful. I watched movies on the plane and boat and could hear things I sometimes missed on my home theater. The design is nice too as some noise reduction headphones have the battery pack on the wire, and its heavy and weighs you down on one side. This has the AAA battery in the headphones themselves and its like it isn't even there! Big thumbs up!

Somewhat useful for flights, but don't work on people
I almost exclusively use these on the plane. I travel a lot (30+ flights a year), and am not interested in hearing your conversation, people in the seat in front of me. Also, I rarely listen to music, so in theory these guys would just sit on my ears and stop noise in its tracks. After hours of reading and researching, and even an electronics store trip to try things out, I decided to get the Sony vs. the Bose. It seemed that I could get nearly as much value out of the Sony for half the price. Yes, they aren't over-the-ear, but for my purposes seemed sufficient. My results have been mixed.Pros:- They do a nice job of blocking out airplane drone. That long, low rumble of the airplane becomes very silent.- They can block out people with low voices, as they tend to sit in that same wavelength.- When you wear them, people won't bother you.- Most US airlines allow you to wear them even during takeoff and landing (putting them into the exclusive category of hearing aids, pacemakers, and implanted medical devices).- While some people complain about it, I like how the cable is separate from the headphones. Since I use these for silence more often than not, I am glad I don't have to worry about the cord strangling me when the stewardess catches the end on the drink cart while walking by.- They come with a nice carrying case that I can throw in my bag.Cons:- They don't block out people's voices. It was a huge disappointment reading this in the manual. I was hoping for true silence, but in reality I received a slightly muted response. Worse, the more annoyingly loud/high-pitched the chatty neighbor, the less effective these headphones are.- They are very tight around my head. I can only wear them about an hour at a time before my ears start to hurt. I don't have an exceptionally wide head, so I don't know how those barrel-headed people do it.I will keep the headphones because the pros do outweigh the cons. And maybe they will get more comfortable with more usage.

empty boxes are no fun :(
Box was empty. So sad as we have FINALLY convinced ourselves to spend the money. Seller was great and stood behind the order. Unfortunately for us, they had no more and we are still dragging our feet.

not much noise canceling
I have an older noise canceling headphone set which works very good. I assumed that this newer set would be at least as good. It barely has any noise canceling effect. Also the controls are confusing.

Convenient, efficient enough
I used the headphones immediately after the purchase on a plane, and it really worked! I have a suspicion that a competitive product from Bose is even more efficient (as I tried it in a store once), but it's twice more expensive. I also liked the design of this device from Sony and the fact that it has an airplane plug adapter.Updating after more use. It works much better if you listen to the music, even if it's on a low volume. If you need to cancel airplane sound without listening to the music you might be a little bit disappointed. It reduces noise, and other people conversations technically are not noise. But I doubt that any device can cancel surrounding sounds 100%.

awesome audio quality for the money!
Amazing sound quality. Headache relief in airplanes. Before using these, I never realized how much background noise was present on airplanes. I use it the whole duration: when watching movies, when not watching movies. I guess the only drawback is that you have to turn down the volume pretty low to not be too loud. Pilot announcements can be quite lou .

Great sound cancelling headphone; fidelity not up to Sony standards; heads are very small and tight
As far as noise cancelling, these phones are excellent. They are better than my old JVC's which I had always thought of as excellent. The heads are small on top of the ear kind and could be a little bigger and softer. They fit quite tightly and get uncomfortable after an hour or so. The JVC's I used to have had much better sound and were a little more comfortable. I decided to keep the Sony's because overall they do the job.
