A must read for enacting equitable change
This is a critically important read and toolkit. I can’t emphasize the importance of this book enough. It’s an actionable guide to understanding and dismantling inequity in our educational institutions, and it’s written with an orientation to the practical— the how we all as leaders and educators can engage in transformative, equitable change. Drs. Paul Gorski and Katy Swalwell come with decades of experience in the theory/research and application of equitable change in educational spaces, and it’s written with a refined understanding of the WHY in addition to the NOW WHAT?! I will be not only adding this to the lineup of core doctoral reading in the PhD program I oversee, but also will share it with organizations that are seeking clarity and pathways forward for more just and equitable futures. It’s got a systems-accountability orientation which gives us all (in educational organizations) a road map for change and reimagination in our own praxis. So grateful for this resource!

Excellent
Excellent addition to every educational stakeholder's bookshelf. Gorski and Swalwell make an impassioned and convincing case for moving beyond surface-level equity that sustains inequity to transformational equity work. Our equity work must be done at the pace required to redress the harms done to those experiencing inequity, not those that are resistant to equity efforts. The authors push us to think about why inequitable systems are in place, not just making necessary changes. I appreciated the intersectional nature of the book and how many kinds of examples are provided.

Might be the best book on educational equity that I’ve ever read
It’s highly possible that this might be the best book on educational equity that I’ve ever read. I appreciated the authors' emphasis on action, not just empty rhetoric. The book is immensely readable, very practical, and absolutely fantastic. I liked this book so much that I gave a copy to every student in one of my principal licensure cohorts. This book was definitely a strong contender for my top read last year.
