My new favorite kitchen tool
I've had this grater for a couple months now and I absolutely love it. I've always had an issue with box graters with losing the lower inch or two of grating surface because there's no finger clearance between the bottom of the grater and the work surface. The legs on the Rosle lift it up off the work surface, assuming you're not using it over a bowl, and allow you to make use of the entire grating surface. That brings up one of the other great features -- the very generous grating surface. It makes quick work of any grating task for which this is the right tool. Each pass over the grater produces a lot of grated product. The long strokes that are possible with this grater also allow for much longer shreds than I've gotten with any other grater. The length of the shred is going to depend on the size of the item being shredded, but this grater does not force you to use short strokes that terminate before the item has made a full pass. I'll often get cheese shreds that are a good three inches long.Being able to anchor the grater over the rim of a bowl is a nice feature. I don't find it works all that well with cheese because the pressure required to shred the cheese is too great and the bowl tends to slide around a lot. I find it easier to stand it on the legs and work at more like a 45 degree angle. But placing the grater over a bowl is excellent for shredding other items that require a bit less effort, such as carrots or potatoes.I was originally a bit afraid the medium grater might not be coarse enough for cheese, but after using it I think this size is just about perfect. It's coarse enough that the gratings have some definite substance to them but not so coarse that cheese takes a long time to melt. I do use a fine tooth grater for hard cheeses, but for everything else this grater is excellent.I must admit I was more than a little reluctant to spend this much on a grater. Now that I've had it a while I'm very glad I did. It's a very well built, sturdy, high quality kitchen tool. I've only had it two months but I can't imagine it ever falling apart. It's all stainless steel so, with anything approaching reasonable care, rust should not be an issue. On the topic of care, I've found I need to be vigilant when cleaning it. I've had cheese get stuck on the back top side of the teeth. The indentations are deep enough it can be difficult to get a sponge it there with enough force to dislodge stuck on cheese. A stiff brush works well to thoroughly clean the back side. I wouldn't suggest it for the front unless you want shredded bristles in your dish water.Given the price this is clearly a tool only for those who do a lot of grating in the kitchen. If that's you, you won't regret this purchase.I paid full fare for my grater and have no financial interest of any kind in Rosle or Amazon.UPDATE: I've had this grater for almost 2-1/2 years now. My feelings about it are still exactly the same as what I wrote above. I've probably averaged about two uses a week over that time. I've found that some tools, in the workshop and in the kitchen, are an absolute pleasure to use, and this definitely falls into that category. Every time I use it I'm happy I made the decision to buy it. It still shreds like a dream.

Stop Looking! Not Good, GRATE!
I am not sure how many box style graters I have gone through, reviewing my purchase history, it looks like I even tried a hexagonal grater in the hopes of it being stronger. No grater, until this one, has lived up to and surpassed my expectations of being a quality kitchen tool. When I realized that store bought grated cheese was covered in wood pulp or some other parting agent, I began to grate my own cheese. The funny thing is once you start grating your own cheese, the magic of cheese returns - the way it moistens, melts and bubbles. Of course this love destroyed grater after grater. Aged Parmesan is as good a test as any for a grater as I have found, and this grater passed that test easily. It doesn’t bend or deflect in any way.The irony of course is that because of the price, I waited and waited to buy this grater. I assumed it’s construction was like all the other graters I have owned. Finally, at a price drop I purchased this grater. When I unboxed it, I was struck by the weight as well as the thickness of the support bar as well as the graters overall rigidity. I pulled out my digital calipers and realized it is in essence the frame is 1/4” wire.If there is one annoyance about grating cheese with a box grater it’s what to grate the cheese in. A plate, a bowl, a dish. Too high of a side it interferes, too low and it often falls over the edge. This grater eliminates all the guess work. Cake pan, casserole, or bowl: whatever you prefer (a corning-ware load pan has become my favorite option). This grater is constructed well enough to support itself. That is a huge game changer.I’ll be the first to admit that this is an expensive grater, but I have waited a couple of months to write my review, in order to make sure it really is all I initially thought as well as being worth the price. This is the greatest grater around - ready to grate any cheese, anytime. I wholeheartedly recommend this product and believe you will never regret it.

Simply the best grater.
I purchased the course grater. It is comparable with any box grater. With this twist. The blade design for the rosle is slightly different than a box grater. The box grater basically gives a "flat" shoestring. The rosle gives a "slightly" banana shaped shoestring. Its all in the blade design. Hashbrown potatos brown superbly. Cook a wee bit faster. Texture like i described is "slightly" heavier than a box. The actual hole size in the rosle is the same size as a box grater. The rosle blade design produces the "banana" shoestring. So dont be afraid to order the coarse. I love mine. I havent tried shredding lettuce yet...but i know the rosle will do it.Now...for safety. This thing will shred your fingers to the bone before you ever will realize that you are maimed for life. DO NOT LET A CHILD USE THIS TOOL!! Some adults shouldnt use this tool. A safety glove is recommended. Having said that...i dont use a glove. Just my bare fingers. When you get close to the end of whatever you are shredding...back way off the pressure. Slow your speed to a snail crawl. Let the tool do the work. Not your brute force. Did i mention this tool is sharp? Respect it...and you will be good to go.This rosle is built heavy duty. HEAVY DUTY!!! no flexing. Super strong wire handle and frame. I bet one could shred a super cold one pound block of chedder cheese in less than 20 seconds. But i dont recommend doing that. I wanna keep my finger tips for a few more years. Cleaning is a breeze. I just use a spray bottle with plain water. Then pat dry with a towel.Cost. Yeh. A little expensive. But...if an average box grater is $10-$15 ..the rosle is well worth the difference.I wasnt paid for this revue. I am not connected to rosle in any way. I am simply an end user like you. Order it. You wont be sorry.
