Excellent product
My old HP Deskjet 950c is about 25 years old. In those days, printers using a Centronics connector were attached to the computer using the parallel port. My present machine only has USB ports so I needed a conversion device. I run a Linux system so was a little uncertain how well this device would be accepted. I need not have worried. I connected up the printer and then booted the machine. The printer was recognised instantly and the setup menu reported an HP driver was present. It then offered to print a test page. Perfect result !

Works well with a HP LaserJet 2100!
I wanted to use my HP LaserJet 2100 directly with my Vista laptop as it is what I use for the majority of my work. I decided to buy this StarTech.com Parallel Printer Adapter after reading some pretty good reviews on other sites about it.Installation:The cable came with one of those mini-CD's, but I didn't need to use it, the drivers were installed as soon as I plugged the cable in. It took a little trial and error to get my laptop to recognise the printer though, for example the standard way of 'plug printer in to computer and switch on' did not work for me. I had to have both my laptop and the printer turned on when plugging the USB cable into my laptop for it to install the printer drivers.Printing speed and quality:Just as it always used to be, what you sent to print is what came out and the speed was no slower than it was with a standard parallel printer cable. I tested the printing quality with both .PDF and .JPG files and the usual word and excel documents - everything was as clear as you can get with a black and white LaserJet.The only issue I had was when I first sent a request for 12 copies to the printer and it threw a bit of a wobbly every other page resulting in it only printing 6 pages. All I had to do was turn it on and off again and the problem was solved, the next 12 copies came out fine. There is a possibly that this issue was not down to the StarTech cable as the printer used to have "off" moments with a standard parallel printer cable and an old Dell PC.Overall I am pretty pleased with the purchase and my old LaserJet 2100 workhorse has come out of retirement for the foreseeable future.

StarTech Printer Adaptor works well
I wanted to connect a very old Epson Stylus Color 400 printer to a fairly old Windows XP computer, and this did the job.XP installed the USB to Parallel adaptor immediately without having to search for drivers. When I went to 'add new printer' it didn't work first time, as it was not clear which of the computer's USB printer ports was the StarTech adaptor. Once I found the right one it worked OK, using the printer driver from XP's list.

Good build quality
I got this to use with my laptop that does not have the printer port. My portable Canon printer BJC80 has been my compamion for many year delivering good quality documents while I'm away from the office. The cable does work but it takes forever to make the coversion making it not pracicle for my requirements.

Works in Linux
Very pleased with cable. Works in Linux: 3.13 kernel/Ubuntu 14.04/HP LaserJet 4 Plus. No problem compiling, but did have to mess about in printer set-up trying to guess the correct configuration. This worked for me:device: url parallel:/dev/lp0make &model: HP LaserJet 4 Plus hpijs pcl3, 3.14.3All my web research suggested usb/parallel cables were a pain/do not work. I took a punt with this one, because of the linux driver, and am very glad I did. Would highly recommend this cable.

Excellent
Very easy to set up and use as having read some of the reviews from other cable suppliers I was expecting some difficulty. We use the cable to print to a laser printer from 2 laptops and the cable just swops over without any problem at all
