Redwood - Metal Paraffin Hurricane Lantern - 30cm - Silver

People have harped on about their difficulties getting the instructions out etc. It is a simple process and requires no more than 10 seconds investigation. The reservoir plug is not ideal, but is more than fit for purpose. Overall, this is an OUTSATNDING bit of kit for the money. I will be buying more.

prompt delivery and very well packed with bubblewrap and double cardboard. childproof filler cap was tight to open as it was cross threaded but once released it now unscrews ok. you have to push cap down to engage contact to unscrew like on medicine bottles etc. filled to level mark and left for a while to soak wick and confirm no leaks before lighting. pull lever down to raise glass for lighting. flame is shaped flat and wide by cutout in wick holder. had one years ago and glass was marked as pyrex so hope this glass is heatproof although not marked as such. lift glass to blow out flame. lamp works ok, not as bright as battery LED lamps but handy if no electric and paraffin available as in my garage. happy with product for the price.

There isn't much to like really. As I mentioned already it is flimsy, and awkward to perform any maintenance on it without feeling the glass may break and there is no clear instruction to explain how to safely remove the glass. Also, the filling cap doesn't feel as if it's screwed on properly which could be a safety issue. When you pull the lever down, the glass should lift up to light the wick, but instead the glass tries to fall out. I bought this as one of those Amazon frequently bought together sales gimmicks, so I bought the lamp, 2 rolls of wicks and 4 litres of paraffin. The problem is the wick in the lamp is round like a thick boot lace and the spare wicks are flat and will never fit the lamp ever. They couldn't even be cut to fit so my advice is double check. Regarding the lamp, you get what you pay for, and to be fair, once it is lit, it works well enough, but I have since found this actually leaks fluid so would advise it not be used indoors. Not fit for purpose and potentially dangerous.

Works but does not inspire faith in the long term

Not the best quality but for the money that I paid they were ok. A little flimsy and the light isn't the best but they look good. Good enough for what I paid though.

The quality of this item is pretty standard but it's difficult to find a really good parrafin lamp these days. If it lasts a couple of winters for a tenner you can't go wrong. It's a decent size holds enough parrafin for at least a couple of days and hasn't leaked yet though only had it a few days.
