Skytech vs. Ambient...Skytech Wins!
We purchased this Skytech controller to replace an Ambient unit that had shorted out after only five years use. Originally, we'd planned to replace the unit with the same brand, but Ambient was double the price (?) and as we couldn't order directly from Amazon, but were redirected to the Ambient site, they wanted us to pay somewhere around $11 for shipping. So, not seeing that there was any additional value for the extra money, we decided to give the Skytech controller a try. Voila! It works like a charm, and unlike our previous Ambient unit, was very easy to set and control. One thing though, don't try to install this if you're not qualified to do so. My hubby is a master electrician, so this was a no-brainer for him. But for a person with no experience, please ask for help. (Safety first!)The unit is really basic, with only an On-Auto-Off Switch and the remote control also has only On-Off-Timer-Set on its face. In a world where we are inundated with fancy gadgetry, it's nice to see a simple way to warm yourself by the fire. Buy it!

Great Product!
Even though the remote was made for a hard wired receiver, I called a local fireplace store, and was able to make the old wireless receiver learn the new remote (the new item that I ordered). It's all details that I didn't know about. It all worked out though.

Good product for the price
Used this for an entire season now. Was fairly easy to install, and I've never done anything like this before. Was worth the price, other remotes are very expensive and I'm glad I bought this because it works just as well.

Easy to install and use
I have a hardwired wall switch but needed a remote to switch the fireplace on and off. I wired this in parallel with the existing wiring to allow switch functionality if power goes out. The remote's range of use is perfect for my large space (approximately 1000sf).The installation was very simple for me - it took less than 5 minutes since I have a nice gap under the firebox and the actuator wiring is easily accessible. I have been using the remote for over a month and it has been reliable and sturdy. One nice feature is a confirmation beep from the box when the receiver gets the remote's on/off command. Another feature I have used a couple times is the timer. I'm not one who forgets to turn off the fireplace when I leave the room, but it is good for when I think I may fall asleep watching TV.I wish I'd purchased this long ago!

Easy replacement with many safety features
I purchased this to replace the original RC-STAT Heat 'N' Glo remote for my gas fireplace, which had started randomly turning on the fireplace once every few weeks. After doing some research, I settled on this model because the timer would be more handy to me than the thermostat based control of the original RC-STAT, which I never used (for this reason, I didn't buy the TH model of the Skytech). and of course, I already had a 110v electrical outlet available, so I didn't need to purchase one of the Skytech models with the battery based receiver. It took me a few minutes to detach the RC-STAT because of the heat shrink tubing that was previously used, but once I got that done, installing the Skytech was literally a 3 minute job, of which 2 minutes was wrapping electrical tape around the two connections. What made it really easy is the fact that the Skytech includes both male-female connectors pre-attached to each of it two wires. All I had to do was to remove one male sections on one of the connectors, so I ended up with one wire configured with a female tab connector, and another wire left as-is as a male tab connector, and just attached them to the corresponding tab connectors on my fireplace starter. I then pushed the "learn" button on the receiver and then pressed the remote "on" button to pair them together. It was too easy, and with over a million remote codes available, I am assured that this won't randomly turn on like the old Heat 'N' Glo. What's even more reassuring is that the receiver has an off button that I can use when I go on vacation. Plus, the remote has an additional safety feature where if the remote is not sensed in the vicinity of the receiver every 20 minutes, the receiver will shutdown the gas. The remote also has a child protection mode to prevent inadvertent activation via button playing. This device is far more safety oriented than the original Heat 'N' Glo remote.

Works great!
I used this on my gas fireplace in our bedroom. The timer function is a must have! We can turn it on when going to bed and not have to worry about falling asleep before turning it off. Hook up was very easy, and since we already had a plug socket the builder put in under the fireplace plugging it in was a cinch. If you don't have a plug outlet nearby, I'd recommend getting the other unit Skytech makes that is battery powered. I was even able to leave the original switch hooked up as a backup :-)

Works with my heatilator IPI fireplace.
Reviews say (and various websites say) this will not work with IPI systems. Simply not true. This is simply a switch that opens or closes a circuit. It could work with 1000 different low voltage things but yes it connects to the two wires that normally go to my wall rocker switch. I love it. It’s probably more of a 25.00 item but I gladly paid the mark up to remove the wall switch I currently have.

works great
Took me a little bit to figure out my wiring situation under the fireplace, but no blame of the product for that. Overall, unit works well and as described. Why not 5 stars? It would be nice to have an LED showing the unit is getting power and the remote to be a little more user friendly on the timer, but those are nice to haves. Instructions could be more clear as well. All nice to haves though and I am happy with the unit and would buy again. Finally, my fireplace has a remote & timer! Couple this with a thermal switch (which I did) and it's more user friendly than ever! Why did I wait so long?
