Amazing product
I couldn't find a half-inch to three-quarter locally but Amazon had it and it was delivered quickly.I put the original water heater in in 2005 so it was time to replace it.Last time I soldered all the connections. But this time I used Sharkbite plus added an expansion tank and gauge.First time using them. I followed the instructions about using the deburring tool and marking off the correct depth. It worked perfectly the first time no leaks. I was amazed.

Follow Instructions!
The key to using these Shark Bite fittings is preparation. Make sure to lightly clean the pipe ( not necessarily to solder clean), deburr the inside and outside of the pipe edges and mark and accomplish the insertion depth to spec. NOTE: the insertion depth for the 1/2 and 3/4 max fittings is slightly more than the old insertion tool deburr/ depth gauge provided by SB . I bought this to hook up the hot water line to my new tank. You should not solder anywhere near the dielectric nipples on the tank. I have used SBs for over 15 years and no leaks anywhere . Getting them apart can be a hassle so I bought the special ( and expensive) SB pliers.

Buy a gasket!
This product was easy to setup, but I did not hook it up to a water heater but to the out spout of a laundry system. It ended up leaking but not at the connection part but right under it. Tightening or loosening did nothing as it was not the connectionI ended up having to buy an addition 3/4 gasket and that solved everything. I expect because the water heater has a longer connection port than a standard laundry spout.
