We are huge fans of Top Trumps in this household and I was really excited to get my hands on this new Battle Mat style of the game.I wasn't sure if I would like the change, but wow, I think it's even better and brings a whole new dimension to tactics and enjoyment.It it really simple to play and my 5 and 7 year olds jumped straight in without any issue. The spells are a little more complicated to learn but you pick it up quickly. They aren't actually essential to the game though, so if you have younger ones that are learning they can be ignored at first. They do help balance the game somewhat and add an additional level of skill that can be really interesting to use.In terms of this specific theme and the cards, it's the usual top trump standard and all the expected LOTR characters are there with the fact files included on the card.Really love this all round and I'm looking forward to seeing what other themes they choose to bring to this collection.

I loved Top Trumps as a kid, so I was excited to try this new twist on the classic game.It's essentially the same concept in terms of characters with 5 rated categories: Height, Bravery, Fighting Skills, Power and Top Trumps Rating.You battle your opponent in the same way you do with original Top Trumps in terms of whose card has the best rating for the category, except the gameplay means you don't just deal with 1 card at a time, and you also have some spells to mix it up.It's brilliant for LOTR fans as it features interesting facts, but you can play the game easily without knowing anything about LOTR too.It's pretty simple for primary school children to play once you get going.

This is a nice addition to the Top Trumps suite of games. It’s quite an easy game to play but please note that it is a game for only 2 players. The cards look great they have all of the characters that you would hope and expect to see in the set - the battle tokens add a different dimension. The game is aimed at the 6+ years age group, which is about right - however the younger players will need a bit of help until they get the hang of the battle tokens.

Any child of the 70s will remember Top Trumps, so it’s good to see that it still exists. My daughter loves playing this Lord Of The Rings-themed set, so I would definitely recommend.

I like the top trumps games, they’re easy to pick up and play, and help the children with learning bigger and smaller numbers.This is a great extension to the series, the mat allows for tactics to be introduced to the game which adds a layer of complexity for anyone getting a bit bored. Very happy.

A really cool spin on the traditional game, you play multiple cards at once and take it in turns to turn them over.You can add special moves to the cards with the use of tokens, this adds more strategy and variability to the rounds.I enjoyed this different type of play as it slows it down and takes away much of the luck element from the traditional game.The lord of the rings characters and artwork really suit the game too.Plus you can play the standard rules with the deck, so you get 2 games in one effectively.

It's nice to see Top Trumps branching out of their regular card game to a tabletop LOTR-themed game. It's easy enough to understand the game and can be enjoyed by all ages - a great family game to play, especially if you're LOTR fans!

Super fun and perfect for LOTR fans! It's a nice little upgrade to standard top trump cards. Would recommend!
