Straight up.
You dislike this game if..You want to play as actual LOTR characters such as Aragon, Gimli, Legolas.. etc.You dislike predictable and repetitive story lines. You're not very good at games that require you to fight lots of enemies at once being tactical with health and power replenishing potions. You're a moaning geeky **** that trolls on every game, regardless of nature, because its not Halo/COD/Battlefield/Skyrim Etc.You will LOVE this game if..You enjoy looking at the LOTR trilogy from another angle. You enjoy kicking the **** out of lots of enemies.I am a massive Lord of the Rings fan and really appreciated this game.

better than I had hoped for.
after playing all of the lord of the rings games on PS2 such as the two towers and the third age I was waiting for something new.first of all that new game lord of the rings aragorn's quest (or whatever it was called) came out and that flopped. When this game Lord of the Rings: War in the North (PS3) came out I was at first hesitant to purchase it. I waited until it came down in price and wow I was surprised. The game itself uses a similar game engine to other adventure RPS'g, utilizing acquired skills though leveling points and the ability to customize armor load out during the game. the story itself runs alongside the main LOTR story, it is not designed to replace it. The three main classes mage, dwarf and ranger are all excellent and the character design is adequate. as the story progresses you find that the game is quite linear, smashing enemies and then smash some more enemies until you enter the next area. some people find this boring but I love games that let you grind for EXP and kill lots of enemies.so if youre not a hard core RPG fan or a big fan of LOTR don't winge if you don't like this game just trade it in. on amazon you can trade it for nearly as much as the purchase price.

Love the multiplayer feature too
Bought this a while ago and I've had endless hours of entertainment with it. The storyline is quite long so you won't complete it in a flash. Big fan of the lord of the rings franchise so this game was always going to be a winner in my books! Love the multiplayer feature too.

Great game, even though its one giant bug
This game is a great game, i think it would have been one of the best games ever made on ps3 if it wasn't for the fact that the game has a massive bug which ends your game progress if it hits you.The game itself is set in the north of middle earth and has 3 new characters,a dunedain ranger, an elf and a dwarf. The characters all have loads of weapons and armour that they can equip and mix and match, good skill tree's with great upgrades which make them all great in combat with no one character really being better than the other. The story is great and could be from the hand of tolkien himself. It follows the hero's trying to destroy one of saurons leiutenents who has taken possesion of the witch kings old fortress of carn dum and travels all over the north from mirkwood to sarn ford, from rivendell to mount gundabad. The grafics are great and even though the game does have that masive bug which means that at the end of a quest your next point won't appear(tends to happen from chapter 5 onwards)i just cant be mad at the game, its a great rpg.love it

Starts out very average but gets a lot worse, with game-breaking glitches
"Lord of the Rings: War in the North" was headed towards being a poor game from the moment I started playing it. Graphics are not something that I deem to be that important when compared to story, gameplay, characters, writing and controls. But they really are below standard. Very limited distance vision can be atmospheric, but here it just feels restrictive and lazy. Audio isn't much better, though I haven't found any glaring faults with it myself.Anyway, enough with the poor, onto the terrible (I'll try to be brief);Story - you're trying to defeat a mortal man with some powerful magic who everyone seems to be afraid of. That's pretty much it. Follow his tracks, kill his captains along the way. Nothing of any substance whatsoever.Gameplay - boring, the definition of. Clear area after area of the same bad guys. Do the occasional fetch quest. Whilst a lot of games follow this sort of pattern, most games at least disguise it better, or have the odd moment of ingenuity. Not so here. Level design also leaves something to be desired - whilst there are secret areas to be found in most maps, they rarely yield anything of worth and can be difficult to find because so often an open-looking pathway is blocked by an invisible game wall, which leads you to not bothering with trying to look in more obscure places. My characters can drop down from ledges at specific points, but can't brush aside hanging moss or step over a log that I barely even noticed was there. Linear level-design can work, but at least give me properly blocked pathways.Writing - I'm an RPG gamer. I like finding out about the world I'm in, seeing if extra conversation options might yield bonus information, quests or even hidden Easer eggs. Got bored with doing it in this game after the first couple of hub sections. Just din't care about what any of the characters had to say.Characters - no real personality so to speak of for any of my main three characters. Beleram was the only interesting character (and that's being a little generous). Also, EVERYONE comments on how unussual it is to see an Elf, Dwarf and Human travelling together. Really? Because in every SINGLE extended Universe LOTR game I've played, that's exactly what happens (for obvious reasons - different characterisation, abilities and auto-audience familiarisation with those things. That's called laziness, by the way...)Controls - overall, the best part of the game (they're average). You have a good selection of button combinations for "special abilities" but NO combinations using your two basic attack buttons. <Sigh> I'll just press square and maybe sometimes triangle till they're all gone then...Final point - GAME-BREAKING BUGS. I encountered one at what must have been about 80% through the story. The workaround? Start this crappy game again and make sure you talk to certain people at VERY precise points in the game (quick note - I was lucky to get as far as I did. Apparently the glitches are numerous and I did pretty much everything the way it should have been done, other gamers have had far more issues than I have).Closing comments - without game-breaking glitches I would have been deciding between 2 or 3 out of 5 for this. For a game that breaks itself this easily, I can't possibly give it more than 1 star. Avoid wasting your time and money.
